From long-forgotten barren lands to iconic sandstones and contrasting sea beaches stretching over miles, I heard Australia has some one-of-a-kind landscapes painted in red. And the kangaroos wrestle and can pack a punch stronger than average men. Not to mention how cute those fluffy koalas are! But please don’t talk about reptiles and spiders! Yet, oh, how I wish I could visit Australia— well, someday, maybe.
What’d I do if I were to spend the weekend there?
Faint in excitement?
Mostly unlikely but something closer I guess. Driving a 4x4 through the lonely roads? That sounds lovely already. As if I can feel the sand blown away by irregular winds. But is it too hot? I pray it's not so I can roam around the Outback with a Koala in the passenger seat and enjoy the wilderness till the sun shines. And retreating to a tent once the stars blink far away in a clear sky. With a small campfire inviting night crawlers to share a bite from that barbecued rabbit, the night would be a time to reflect, reminisce, and admire the beauty it beholds.
Two things I like most when it comes to a trip— desert and mountain. But not the bald ones, desert that accommodates numerous lives; big and small. That’s my thing. But never had the opportunity to meet one. And I wonder what it feels like to be alone in a deserted land stretched over hundreds of miles with no human contact, well, technically. I hope Australia has something like that to offer? It’d be a disappointment if there aren’t any. Where’d I spend my weekend then, huh?
In the mountain ranges maybe?
Geared with enough hydration and essentials to sustain a few days wouldn’t be a bad idea. Caveman for the time being? Not bad actually. Who knows I may end up taking shelter in one of the ancient caves with primitive artwork? If not, listening to the howling wind at night hundreds of feet above sea level would make my heart content. Screaming my heart out to echo through the cliffs could be more pleasing. But I am sure this will piss off the mountain dwellers— reptiles, mammals, birds— who knows what will be more enthusiastic to pay me a visit. I hope it’s not the cold-blooded reptiles. I hate them. Also, this landscape has some deadliest ones, I heard.
But if I encounter any, I'd not miss the opportunity to say, 'G'day mate!' with extra emphasis on m-a-t-e.
And of course, I do not want to meet my Kangaroo friend over there. Don’t know where they live mainly but I will find out and have a boxing match with one perhaps. Then we can hug each other before wiping blood from my broken nose or rushing to the hospital with some broken ribs. I can already taste it, lol!
But no, no btiching on the beaches. I hate the water with huge waves. A few minutes and those waves make me weak and saltwater turns my mouth into a parched land. I’d rather be with reptiles in a desert than water with sharks— they have nasty teeth. Also, not with the spiders— I like spiders in general but not the Australian kind; stay away from me you eight-legged cuties.
Oh, how I wish I could be in Australia. But one thing that I’d certainly do if I’m there this weekend, and that is to wish this weekend to be the longest mankind would ever experience. For now, Happy weekend from the other side of the world, folks!
