This weekend's prompt is about engagement on Hive.
I joined Hive about 7 months ago, and my experience has been nothing short of amazing! It all began when I started to play Splinterlands. While googling about the strategies, I chanced upon all these Splinterlands-related posts on Hive and I realised I could earn SPT tokens by writing about my experience too. Then I soon realised there's a massive world out there on Hive outside of Splinterlands and I ended up spending time reading posts in various communities (which was also how I found THE WEEKEND). So that's my introduction!
Engagement on Hive to me is all about having a positive attitude to learn new things/perspectives, a friendly presence to make friends, and sometimes, it's really just being yourself. If I could use a comparison, it's really not much different from interacting with family and friends in our daily lives. Personally, I wouldn't say I have employed any methods or strategies to build my account because I am still relatively new and most of what I did was purely experimental (while having fun at the same time).
If I could share just 3 tips, especially to someone's who newer, here's what I have done or learnt.
- Spend time to read/reply to comments
While you spend time crafting your posts, someone has also spent valuable time to read your post and/or comment their thoughts. In this social media era where there is information overload, I am very grateful when people actively choose to read what I share. Sometimes, a chain of comments could be the spark to making new friends, especially when both of you have common interests. - Don't chase for votes
I know this might sound a little weird, so I thought I would elaborate on this. I am not saying votes/rewards are not important, but I don't think one should be overly fixated on these rewards because this creates a lot of unnecessary stress and sometimes disappointment (e.g. feeling upset why no one voted your posts when you have spent hours researching information to write a post). Sometimes, it takes a while for others to notice good content and you just have to be patient. - Enjoy the process and have fun!
I think this is the most important tip/advice. Have fun writing about the stuff you enjoy, be it food, photography, crypto games, etc. When you are passionate about the subject, the quality of the posts will show. Have fun making friends with people on Hive. Everyone has different life experiences to offer and it can be interesting to read and find out what everyone is up to in their lives too!
To sum up, it's really about learning new things and enjoying the process, and you will be amazed that sometimes the votes and comments will just come naturally.
Thanks for reading and a big shoutout to #weekend-engagement for reaching a milestone of 100 weeks!
