Hey hivers, happy and prosperous new year
Today I want to tell you about the amazing experience I had this Sunday, coincidentally the end of the year.
It is a tremendous coincidence that this year, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve fell on a weekend.
Well, this Sunday was an amazing day, at my house as usual the welcome dinner to the new year was prepared with traditional meals; roast beef, fritters, rice pudding, yams, …
In my neighborhood it is the custom to burn a doll as a sign of the year lived.
The crazy ones to make it are Adriana (a neighbor) and me. In the preparation of this doll we started on Saturday night. We got the skeleton or sticks on which we would put it, as well as the clothes we would use.
When choosing clothes we go house to house looking for what old or just what each neighbor wants to throw away asking for a lot of good things for the coming year.
My mission partner was already at my house early on Sunday to continue with our task, she would take care of stitching with the needle where necessary and I would finalize the missing details.
The filling we chose this time were dry leaves to make it easier to burn, because last year we filled it with old clothes and spent a lot of work to get it to catch fire.
The weather on Sunday was very cold, the Holiday dates are characterized by these temperatures, so we were more than frozen, because the preparation was on the terrace of my house, it was the most comfortable place for the task.
The doll was ready around 6 pm, after sewing here and there. With the help of other neighbors, a gap was made to be able to leave the doll standing, we placed it at the midpoint of the neighborhood.
When the clock struck 11:58 pm all the neighbors were already close to the doll, we could not get closer, because the air was beating very hard, and the flames could fly, it really was a very cold Sunday, one like those that were not felt years ago in my province.
When the countdown began, the doll was already on fire and next to it, the year 2023.
