Hello everyone on the WEEKEND EXPERIENCE community! I was sick last week so I was not able to write anything so I was glad to be finally able to participate with this weeks topics and the one that I want to pay attention to the question of "would I rather starve to death or to resort to cannibalism?" and my answer to that is as clear as the title of this post but before I elaborate my answer, I would want to first picture the scenario that would left me with this two option.
A Desperate Situation
If I am on a situation that I need to choose whether to starve to death or resort to cannibalism, I can only imagine that I am on a place that was far from civilization like being stranded on an isolated islet together with another person with no way to contact anyone or way to leave. Being it a small island, the place that we are stranded to has very small ecosystem so animals that could be used for consumption does not exist and the available plant life are also not edible. That left us with fishing as the only option but the islet was surrounded by sharks so not only they would steal any potential catch, there is also the danger of us becoming the sharks meal and that is also the reason why we cannot get out of the islet. Time is ticking and there were no signs of help coming. We are becoming weaker as the moment passes by and if we do nothing, death is nothing but imminent and that is where the though of resorting to cannibalism has entered my mind.
Why I choose death over cannibalism?
So for this choice, I rather choose to starve to death because if I choose to cannibalism, I must first execute whoever that was with me and that would also make me a murderer. I cannot for it to be a contest of stamina and hope for him to be the first one to fall because if I do that, I probably am also nearing my limit and won't have the energy to eat. Even if I was able to do just that, how long will it take for the for the body to be in a condition that is safe to eat? Perhaps, if I soak it to the seawater before the sharks notice me and dried it on the sun or smoked it on fire, it could last for much longer but without proper storage, it won't really last that much and would just waste me more energy. That also lefts me me the question of where would I get water potable for drinking. Without water, never mind extending your life for a week, a person can't even last 3 days without water. In case I was able to last long enough for help to arrive, would they see me as a survivor or would they see me as a monster? I also can't imagine how I can look on the face of the persons family if I was asked what what happened on that place and told me that I should not be the one that survived. It is also possible that I could have grown a liking to cannibalism as I already taste human flesh which might make me a menace to the society.
So what I will do instead is to face my death as a man. I already knew that this was something that will come. It's just a matter of when and where. But that does not mean that I won't find ways to survived, I just crosses out the thing that would plague my conscience and humanity. I still would try call for help by writing an SOS on the ground or by lighting bon fires.
A cause for the reversal of choice.
When it comes to my choice choice, I am not hundred percent sure that I would come up with my same answer now cause I do not experience such situation yet and maybe I have something there that will cause me to cling on life that would push me to do anything necessary to live like if I had a child, I could have change decision.
And I think that was it for this post. This was in participation with the Weekend Experience Community with topics provided by galenkp. I use an image of a small island as my thumbnail and you can see that despite it having plant life, it does not shows any sign of any animal life and could be the worst place to be stranded.
Thank you for reading my post and have a happy weekend!
