It's a great weekend I saw a lot of great posts covering doing it or not and keeping secrets from the weekend engagement topics so I chose an unpopular topic. This never happened to me in real life so I had to imagine myself in the situation.
(I took this photo today trying to a create a scene of co-worker stealing money from company. Some imagination is needed for this. Wallet = company money)
Wow I just witnessed a co-worker stealing money from the company. I'm shocked that this is happening before my very eyes. The thing is they didn't know I witnessed it. I have three clear choices. I can choose to confront, report or ignore.
There's one choice I'm throwing out the door from the start and that's to ignore. There's no way I can ignore this in my good conscience I wouldn't be able to accept this. I consider myself a good Samaritan and responsible person and ignoring this would just go against these values. It wouldn't look good either if the company found out somehow that I knew about it but didn't report it or do anything about it.
The two choices I would contemplate over would be to confront or report. I would consider confronting my co-worker first about it before reporting. We are in bad times where prices of everything have gone up and people get desperate. People may have a lapse of judgement and do something wrong when it comes to surviving and providing for our family; it's human instinct to do whatever it takes to survive.
I would want to confront the co-worker to ask them what's wrong and why they are stealing the money. This is key to whether or not I would need to report. If they just temporarily needed more money, then I would ask them to return the stolen money and I would help them out with money issues provided they paid me back in the future. In this case, I would choose not to report it.
However, if they chose not to return the money and they clearly had a malicious intent to steal the money, then I would have no choice but to report it. I could end up getting hated or my life could be in danger if I was to do this. Luckily, Malaysia doesn't have the right to bear arms like America does so I won't have to worry about getting shot or anything but I could still be in danger if that co-worker hated me for reporting them; it could end up getting violent.
I feel I have provided a clean explanation of my decision making between the three choices. There are probably people that would ignore in these cases but I'm not one of those people. I hope that I won't have to face this situation in the future but if I do, I will most likely act accordingly to what I have said today.
Thank you for reading until the end and I hope you all have a great weekend!
