It's been a while since I've bought myself a new fragrance. This time though, it wasn't a perfume. It was perfume oil, aka "Attar." This one has a bit of a back story.
A couple of months back I went shopping for attar with my wife for my father and my father-in-law. We sniffed a lot of fragrances, and coffee beans in between quite often! We finally settled on one called "Kashmiri Oudh."
I don't know if it was smelling too many fragrance that day or something else...our sense of smell must have been a bit subdued for that seemed like just a regular oudh attar - typical, designed specifically for elder men.
I hadn't given much thought to that attar ever since, that is up until two days back when my wife and I went to spend the weekend at my in laws. That evening she suddenly rushed to me with the attar I had gifted my father in law and said, "Put it on!" I never say no to trying out a fragrance, so I did. And she turned the air conditioner on. What she explained was her dad was wearing it and his room had the AC turned on. Apparently the sillage of the attar in the cold is "Insane."
And right she was. As our room cooled down, the fragrance started settling around quite heavily and I was mesmerized, and a bit disappointed at how I had missed this the first time I sniffed it. The showroom I bought it from didn't have their AC turned on probably, I don't remember. But it was a miss nonetheless and for a frag-head like me, it was a big blunder.
And I immediately checked their website to place an order but the website wasn't very enriched and seemed haphazard and I couldn't find it. I tried talking to them on messenger and they have a lot of branches all over the country which they said they'd check and let me know. They eventually informed me the next morning they didn't have it in stock anymore and worst of all, they didn't plan on restocking it anytime soon. FML! 🤦♂
I wasn't giving up that easy, so I called up the branch in my city - the branch where I bought it from and asked them if they have any bit left. It was my lucky day it seems and they had about 20-25 ml left approximately (turned out it was a little less than that).
My wife and I rushed to the shop, and sniffed it again to check it was the right one and once we were satisfied I bought up the remaining 18 ml in two 6 ml bottles, and two 3 ml bottles.
Exactly how does it smell then?
"Smells like heaven." That's how my wife put it. And I sort of agree. Everyone has their own imagination of heaven, but that's the gist of how it smells for us.
This is always the most difficult aspect when talking about fragrances. I don't like going into the notes breakdown, you can just google it and it almost always never gives you a good idea of how it smells. Maybe what it smells like, but never close to how it smells like.
I have just started wearing it, so I will need a bit more time to have a more in depth understanding to how it smells, but for now I am satisfied with "heaven in the cold!"
