Hi community, I’m Yuni, and I want to share one of the most fun weekends I’ve ever had, spending it with my wife. We all know women are very curious, and we love exploring new things too!
Last weekend, I experienced something that truly surprised me — my first visit to a tianguis in Mexico. I had heard the word before, but I didn’t really understand what it meant until I walked through one. The moment I entered, I was surrounded by colors, voices, music, and the delicious smell of food everywhere. It was like a celebration of life itself.
Back in Cuba, we used to have something similar called “la feria agropecuaria.” It was where we went to buy fruits, vegetables, and meat from local farmers. But what amazed me about the tianguis was the incredible variety — fruits I had never seen before, snacks of every color and shape, fresh juices, handmade crafts, clothes, and even toys. It felt endless, like a maze full of surprises at every turn.
I spent hours just walking and observing. I loved seeing families laughing together, children holding balloons, people bargaining with smiles. Every seller had a unique way of talking, offering you to try something, always kind and proud of what they sell. That energy reminded me of the Cuban warmth, but with a different rhythm — more vibrant, more colorful, more urban.
At one stand, I tasted a fruit I had never seen in my life. I didn’t even know its name, but the lady smiled and said, “You’ll like it.” She was right — it was sweet, fresh, and strange in the best way. That small moment made me realize how beautiful it is to discover the world through its flavors.
By the end of the day, I left the tianguis carrying a small bag of fruits and handmade sweets, but more than that — I carried a new memory. Weekends are not only for rest; they are for connecting with life around us, for learning, for being amazed again like children.
Every place I visit in Mexico teaches me something new, but that tianguis will always stay in my memory as the weekend when I learned that the simplest things — colors, flavors, people — can be the most extraordinary.
“The world becomes bigger when we keep our hearts open to wonder.”
