I just realized, that I think I have only been into the office once or twice in the last three weeks - and it is starting to affect me. Not that I need go to the office, but I haven't really interacted with many people in the flesh, which is a source of energy for me and I am feeling pretty well depleted. People are even starting to notice it from online meetings.
The topic for my brother's Weekend Engagement Competition (you should probably get involved) is about hobbies and since Hive blogging and Splinterlands is excluded, I am pretty much excluded too, since currently, I realize I don't have any hobbies other than what I do here. Is that sad?
Perhaps it is a bit, since I enjoy quite a few things, but I just feel that I don't have a lot of time to "indulge" in the luxury of meaningless tasks. I am not saying that hobbies are meaningless, far from it, but I still tend to prioritize the useful over the less so - and my other hobbies are pretty lame.
I do like photography though and I really should get out more, but with the weather as it is (it has been around -20), I am not that keen to head out into the snow. Perhaps I am just getting lazy though, as I used to not mind going out into quite extreme conditions in the hope to capture something most other people will not. The weather is a little milder now, so perhaps tomorrow.
Well, that depends on what happens with the curtains. Yes, the curtains. We have to organize something for our windows as our place looks a bit like a mental asylum with nothing on the walls. I plan on getting some pictures from our travels printed, but haven't got around to it yet and the largest size I have found available, is not large enough - we have a lot of wall space. Perhaps that is what I can do in my upcoming holidays.
Ooh, and I have to look at building a new PC, as mine is reaching the end of its lifecycle and it is time to replace it. I have only built one PC in my life (the one I am on), but it wasn't too hard, so I will do it again. It has lasted over five years, but I think one of the reasons I don't want to replace it is that it reminds me of the past.
The day after my daughter was born, my PC gave up the ghost. However, my daughter had some issues and was in intensive care for almost two weeks, but I also needed my PC to keep my business alive, so was forced into getting a new one. I was going to buy "off the rack" to rush the process but money was tight and the guy convinced me to build my own and made sure that I had more power for cheaper and, it would only take a couple hours to do.
He was right.
However, I was organizing and doing all of this on almost zero sleep, running backwards and forwards between the hospital (my wife was still in hospital with complications too) and trying to keep all the balls in the air. Honestly, I don't think I have stopped since that time and whilst it might not seem like the healthiest of lifestyles, I think I have managed to keep most of the balls from hitting the ground, or at least, staying on the ground for too long.
Does staying busy count as a hobby? I don't think so, but it is something I consistently do and I tend to be able to always find something to work on that has some value, before I sit down and do much of anything else. As I have said, I will likely work until I die, sooner or later.
Some people wouldn't see this as much of a life perhaps, but at the same time, what are people who consume a lot of other people's content really experiencing of the world? I think this is one of the insidious sides of the entertainment model, as they are able to create content that makes us feel like we are gaining something, even though for the most part, it is a net loss of our time and potential. But, since we have been encouraged to give so much weight to how we feel, we don't notice that we aren't getting much experience that improves our lives.
So, it might very well be that at least during this period of my life, I don't actually have a hobby to mention, but I think I should look to pick one back up or find a new one to explore. But, just because I don't have one, it doesn't mean you can't participate in the Weekend Engagement competition with the chance to win some HIVE. This is a weekly thing (I am a sponsor), so throw a follow to get the Friday topic ang get involved, especially in the comments section.
What's your current hobby?
Don't tell me, post about it instead!
