The Vrsno Carnival is a unique cultural tradition that takes place in Vrsno, a small village located on a hill above the Soča River in Slovenia. The tradition has been preserved for over a century.
The carnival last two days, the first day the younger generation wearing various costumes visit people's homes in order to bring spring and joy. People offer them some eggs, homemade sausages and wine. Each year they choose a different topic that is currently actual.
The most traditional mask is made of sheepskin and ram's horns, around their waist they wear cowbells. They carry a woman's stocking filled with ash and use it to catch children.
The next day there is an event in Vrsno to which all people are invited. It is a little different from the usual carnivals, as it is more of a social event for all the villagers.
