Spontaneous ideas are the best
Although my boyfriend was supposed to have a full week holidays between this weekend until the end of the year, he realized he still has quite some tasks to finish which would mean he needed to rush things this week. On top of that, there was no way we were going to book an overnight stay somewhere with these rediculous prices everywhere so it would mean daytrips all the week only. And resting of course!
As we planned on going to Granada last weekend, I had a clear moment when I thought I should explore the option to book a night away that weekend so we'd still have a bit of holiday feeling, just a bit sooner than planned. Great move on my end, I found a cute little house in the Costa Tropical, Nerja.
Packing
A returning ritual with an overnight stay is that I overpack. I make sure to have options to wear as well as home wear for comfy binging once the kid is in bed. In this case it also meant we took our bathrobes because I checked the forecast and it had 7 degrees Celcius temperature difference so no way I was going to leave these home!
Last minute business
On Saturday morning I received 3 last minute orders that I wanted to ship before driving to the other coast. So on top of the last minute packing and getting the house in order, I was also packing the ordered goods and printing shipping labels. But it felt nice knowing the overnight stay was already covered by the orders I received before leaving.
After the weekly management meeting, we quickly gathered our luggage and the orders to jump in the car and drop these off before heading to the Costa Tropical. We were a bit hungry though so we quickly stopped at a gas station to grab a few of these sandwiches for in the car as I agreed on an arrival time and we were already running late thanks to dropping off my three orders.
Nerja
We often go to Nerja for the weekly Sunday fleamarket / carboot sale but it had been a while since we been there because lately we go more often to Granada than to the Costa Tropical. I picked an accomodation close to the market on Sunday because it would be nice to be there early for once as usually we arrive there around 11 the earliest and I was quite curious if there would be more to see arriving early.
It was funny to drive past the flea market spot and be just minutes away from this location when we parked the car in front of the rental. This area of Nerja looked so cute, all these white houses and so many flowers cheering up the streets, happy vibes all over.
Cute little house
We arrived in the house and fell in love with it instantly. It's not often that we end up staying in a house over an appartment. These are often very expensive but I struck a good deal by accident and I was so happy that I did. This house gave us so much inspiration, funny how that works when you change environment for just a day and get this boost of inspiration. I love it!
The house had a living room with open kitchen (super cute), two bedrooms and a bathroom. And the best part, a garden! I yet have to write a review so I'm not going to share all the pictures I took from the house until I sorted them properly.
Garden
The garden was not big but we learned it was definitely big enough and something we'd be very happy with in the future. It's arranged really nicely and there was a terrace as well to sit outside. I was taking pictures of the flowers and this was probably one of the first pictures I took in the garden:
I didn't notice the mango immediately but found out it was in the picture at home. My daughter joined me outside and said "Mama, what's this weird thing here in the grass??". Do you see it in the picture above?
It was a mango from the mango tree you see in the picture above as well. How cool! I never had a garden with mango tree in my life and even though it's very common at this coast, it felt so cool that this mango came from this tree in "our own" garden. Of course it was just our garden for a day but still, I want this in the future!
Upon further inspection, we also discovered a lime tree as well as this fruit tree that I could not identify.
My boyfriend first thought it was an orange tree but I saw one of these fruits squashed on the ground and it looked different than an orange. I suspected it to be a peach but I'm not sure as I could not any piece to inspect closely.
So many flowers
The best thing in the garden for me were the flowers, they were great to practice photography because even though our area has plenty of flowers as well, I never get to take this many different pictures in such a small area at once. Here's one that I captured and have no clue what it is, do you know?
A bit more zoomed out:
The pictures are going from good to bad but here's the whole plant:
If you know the name, drop a comment below.. I'm really unknown to most plant names but I'm really excited for the day that we have our own house and garden to be able to have such a cool garden ourselves.
I'll share more flower pictures another day because my back is killing me right now, I've been reorganizing some kitchen cabinets and even though it was with great success, I'm now paying the price. So it's time to end this post about last weekend and start this current weekend, which will be fun as well.
I hope you have a great weekend yourself!
