This Saturday we celebrated the baptism of my granddaughter (Leila) at her paternal grandfather's farm, located in Campo Elias/Yaracuy State/Venezuela.
There was a lot of controversy for that baptism, since the godmother was my oldest daughter who is currently in Santiago de Chile, capital of Chile.
Since the girl was born she was named godmother and in theory she was going to be baptized when she turned one year old, the pandemic came and everything got complicated.
It has been 3 years now and my eldest daughter has not been able to travel to Venezuela, so they decided to have her baptized by her paternal aunt.
They hired a priest friend of the family to go to the farm and perform the ceremony there with a very select group of people.
The mass was scheduled for 10 o'clock on Saturday morning, we got up very early that day to get ready and go to the farm to fulfill this important sacrament such as baptism.
From my youngest daughter's house to the farm there is a 30 minute drive, so we were scheduled to leave at 9 am to arrive before the priest arrived, everything was going very well, at 9 am we were all ready to leave, when we were about to leave my daughter (my granddaughter's mother) got a very strong dizziness and fainted.
She is 6 months pregnant, instead of going to the farm, we had to go to the clinic, they attended her immediately and the diagnosis was low blood pressure, they left her for an hour for observation with the corresponding treatment, from there we went straight to the farm where we arrived almost at 11 in the morning.
We apologized to the priest for being late and he understood, but he said he had another commitment so he had to start immediately and so he did.
After several beautiful songs by the altar boys and after the mass was over, the priest asked the parents and/or godparents for the candle and the white handkerchief to continue with what corresponded, everyone saw each other's faces with a nervous smile, it turns out that with the scare and the rush to run to the clinic, that stayed at home.
My son-in-law wanted to fix the situation and said to the priest: "Just a moment father, I'll get it for you". There was total silence, while he entered the house and arrived with a little piece of a white candle that he found in a drawer of his mother's combing machine, and he removed one of the ties of the chairs that were made with a white cloth.
The priest, seeing the anguish of everyone, burst out laughing and said, "relax son, we are live and anything can happen, hahaha... that little piece of candle works, and I brought a little white cloth with me, because it has happened to me other times that the relatives forget, so he took out his little cloth and with that candle he concluded the baptism ceremony" hahahaha
.
That was the end of everything my dear friends, then they offered those present a breakfast with empanadas, sandwiches, sweets, juice, soft drinks and coffee.
The priest left with his people and we family members stayed to share some more time. We laughed a lot about the candle and the handkerchief, but we also worried about my daughter's fainting and the visit to the clinic.
She was very stressed about the baptism, she wanted everything to go well, she didn't sleep at all the night before and had no appetite, so it is thought that this is why she had such an unpleasant episode. But thank God everything ended satisfactorily!!!!
See you next weekend.
