Working in healthcare means Monday to Friday doesn’t really exist. You work weekends, holidays… whenever needed. But because my shifts are 12 hours long, I don’t work five days every week. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I officially work 30 hours per week.
And when a weekend comes where I’m actually home? Ohhh… that’s gold. Especially Sunday. I love Sundays at home.
Everything is closed. No pressure. No rushing. And of course...no cleaning.
I grew up in a Christian family, and Sunday was the day to relax. Cleaning? Absolutely not. 😄 So yes, I still respect that rule. No cleaning. No stress. No nonsense 😉
This weekend was supposed to look a bit different. But plans changed because of my husband. You know… my previous article 😅
I planned to go to the sea...the Slovenian sea...with a friend. We wanted to visit another friend who just had a baby. I really wanted to see that tiny sweetheart. But I was scared to leave my husband alone, so I stayed home.
He promised me we’ll go together when he’s fully better. He is better already… but I’m still his official guardian 😌
Leaving him alone right now would end badly. He would eat all my sweets, drink cola all weekend, and live on fast food. And that’s not allowed anymore. Look what already happened! 😄
Yes, he’s skinny, but honey… the body doesn’t work like it did 10 years ago. Bellies grow quietly 😉 Time to improve eating habits.
Early Sunday morning
Today I woke up at 7 a.m.
Why? Because last night I watched some brutally disturbing documentary on Netflix. Honestly, not sure I recommend it. So I fell asleep at 9 p.m.
Nine. P.M. 🤦♀️🤦♀️
What is happening to me? I’m officially getting old 😅
But first things first.
Coffee. Pills
Very important.
So I made my coffee and sat outside for around 15 minutes. The weather was perfect...not too cold, not too warm. Big fluffy sweater, coffee in hand, reading the news, doing crosswords. Pure peace. 😂
And then…
Sunday lunch choice (not mine)
For the last four days, my husband was allowed to choose lunch and dinner, and I cooked everything.
His Sunday lunch wish?
Boiled beef with roasted potatoes.
My father taught me how to cook beef properly, and this is still my favorite way.
How I cook it?
Put the meat and soup vegetables (leek, carrot, parsley root, celery root, you can buy them already packed) into cold water. Add salt.
Let it boil, then cook on very low heat for about three hours.
Ten minutes before it’s done, add one Knorr cube. 👌
Bonus: you get soup too. Win-win.
Cat visit 🐈⬛🐈
After that, it was time to visit the cats. (Yesterday my neighbor asked if I could take care of her cats for two days. Of course I said yes. When you don’t have pets anymore, taking care of cats is pure joy. And if you feed them, they love you instantly 😄)
Ohhh, those babies were so happy to see me.
Leo, the black one, only cared about food. No time for playing.
And the other one… Flaushy. That cat looks angry all the time. Not his character...just his face.
Luckily, we’re already friends, so I’m not scared. But if you see him for the first time… uff 😳 Those eyes!
After cuddles and food, I went back home. 😌
Next?
Waking up the husband! (secretly) 😂
My husband was still sleeping, so I needed a plan to wake him up without him knowing I woke him up on purpose.
Sooo? Smoothie time 😇 😂
Today’s smoothie:
1 banana
2 big strawberries
A handful of blueberries
Almond milk
Mix it very well. Loudly 😄
Mission successful. 💪
My husband woke up, walked into the living room, put his ass down on the sofa, and started watching random videos, and yes….Splinterlands time…Nothing new… 😄
Yes. That’s allowed today.
And then? Lego!
Because our dog is no longer with us, there are no morning walks.
So what do I do?
No, not watching TV.
I sit down, drink my smoothie, and… build Lego!
Not the whole set...just a little part. I don’t want to finish everything in four hours. What I’m building? That’s for another article 😉
While I’m building Lego, the meat is cooking, and it’s time to prepare the rest.
Potatoes & horseradish sauce
Horseradish sauce:
Grate fresh horseradish (or buy it ready). 👍
Add sour cream and a little salt.
Done. 👌
Potatoes:
Wash unpeeled potatoes well.
Boil them in salted water for 15–20 minutes.
Let them cool, then peel.
Slice an onion and fry it in oil until lightly brown and smelling amazing.
Slice the potatoes into rings and fry them gently at first, then stronger at the end.
Add salt and pepper. Stir often!! ( important rule) 😂
Finish with fresh parsley on top.
That’s it. 😊
So…Lunch, then… nothing
Lunch is served.
And after lunch?
Nothing.
Okay...almost nothing.
Feet up.
Book in hand.
Swimming in an imaginary world. 😌
Lego can wait for another day.
And of course… a little cuddling with my husband. Just a little 😉
And you?
How do you spend your Sunday?
