"Let food be your medicine and medicine your food"- Hippocrate
Today I am responding to the Weekend Engagement of (WE96),
Overseas food
Tell us about your best or worst overseas food experience, [a country other than your own], explaining where it was, where you were eating and what; also tell us what was so good or bad about it. Was it the food itself, the company, location or experience? Bonus points for using your own photos.
Egypt has so much to offer tourists, no matter what you come here for, whether it's the Red Sea attraction or the sights, you'll come into contact with Egyptian gastronomy.
Egyptian cuisine is not extremely extravagant but is noted for its simplicity and good taste, using large quantities of vegetables and fruits grown along the Nile.
The perfect holiday is not complete without a delicious culinary experience, prepared according to traditional recipes by the locals themselves. From this point of view, Egypt will conquer you with tasty dishes that will make you enjoy every second spent in this magical land.
Being in the Hurghada Marina area we chose to visit the fish market there for a bit, the experience is amazing that is if you are prepared to see what goes on there.
We had two options, either buy the seafood or fish from the market and pay someone to cook it in front of you and eat exactly as the locals eat exactly in the market on a makeshift table, or choose a local restaurant.
Of course I chose the second option and after some research on the internet I found out that just across the street from the fish market there is an Egyptian restaurant that uses exactly the ingredients from the market across the street.
Right at the entrance to the restaurant we were greeted by a refrigerated display case where there were many types of seafood, fish of all sizes and colors, octopus, crabs, and from there you could choose what to cook.
After sitting at the table and studying the menu for a while we decided what to eat and we ordered something called VIP El Halaka Meal.
VIP El Halaka Meal contained - Seafood soup, Shrimps, Fish Fillet, Calamari, Kofta, Rice Shrimps, Crab and Salad, and in addition to the above we also received hummus with olive oil, some freshly baked breads, Baba ganoush and on the house we received a 1l bottle of plain water.
I can say that here I had the best dining experience of all the places I have eaten this kind of food, now you must be curious and how much I paid for all the food I ordered for one person.
A VIP El Halaka Meal costs 220 Egyptian pounds, that is about 55lei/11euro, compared to the price in some European or overseas restaurants it is very low, that is my opinion, but here we are not talking about how much it costs but about how it is cooked and the taste of the food, what taste can be better than when you get the raw material directly from the fishermen in the harbor and put it directly to cook, from what I have seen there I have not seen to use frozen ingredients or other dubious ingredients, this also convinced me to try the food in this restaurant.
I am very happy to share with you the pictures of what I ate in Hurghada Marina, and if you are ever in the area stop by this restaurant and try the different dishes for an amazing experience.
Also for an out of the ordinary culinary experience, try the street food in the fish market or anywhere around Egypt, it's amazing.
