The history of this place is amazing, which is why I visit it
I send you all my best thoughts
For this weekend I have chosen to share with you the most interesting historical place that I visited, the idea is that I will present you a place with a spectacular historical load, why do I say that, simply because in this place is gathered a part of the history of the county where I live.
In September 1944, German troops occupy several villages on the western border of Romania, reaching as far as here in the western plains where they are met by Romanian army troops.
The German and Hortist troops were very well trained but also very well equipped, far superior to the Romanian army.
I haven't told you the place yet, so as not to keep you in suspense, and yes, it's the Paulis Heroes' Memorial.
Many times either when I am here near the monument or many times when I pass by it (there is a week when I pass by the monument and 3 times) I think about what was in the minds of those young soldiers who lost their lives here.
The young NCOs were between 18 and 20 years old (at the beginning of the war) and were brought from all over Romania, not just from the west of the country.
To give you an idea of the scale of the war I can tell you that the German army had around 20,000 soldiers and the Romanian army numbered around 1800 soldiers of which 800 were young non-commissioned officers aged between 18-20 years, even so inferior in every respect the Romanian army managed to win the battles here in the western plain.
With a tear in the corner of my eyes I remember that I was lucky enough to personally meet the last six war veterans alive at the time, this was many years ago.
In the picture below you can see the painting of the Paulis Heroes Memorial on the wall of the village school.
A few years ago I also attended with sorrow the funeral of the last war veteran, who died at the age of 96; as far as I remember, only one of the six veterans died at 101, the others being between 94 and 98.
In conclusion, in answer to the question in the first topic of this weekend, the most interesting historical place we visited is this, the Monument of the Heroes in Păuliș, Arad (Romania).
