I wouldn´t, exactly call myself a law abiding person, simply because of the way in which I choose to live. Before I was a parent, I was a bit of a pirate, driving unaccompanied on only my learners license, plus helping out at squat parties. I really valued my freedom and as long as I am harming no one, then what´s the problem.
Of course, I made sure I was a competent driver, having paid for lessons and practicing lots with my friends. It´s ridiculous how much it costs to get your full license, and the cost is only getting higher. I don´t drive anymore, I actually prefer walking.
Most people, find it hard to believe that I don´t have a license, seeing as I live in a truck. Even when I had my campervan in Australia, I drove it around whilst only having a learner´s permit. I never had any problems or got into trouble.
I am not a huge fan of the level of control that is being exerted over us humans, some people may be oblivious to it or are happy to turn a blind eye. But I believe that we should all be allowed to choose how we wish to live. As long, as we do no harm to any living thing.
But that is simply not the way.
When I became a parent, I quickly realized how much the government likes to have a heavy hand in how we birth, educate and raise our children.
I had an unassisted birth with my third daughter, which is not legal in the Country she was born. After having quite a traumatic birth with my first daughter and then a very successful homebirth with my second, I felt empowered to have an unassisted home birth.
Prior to becoming pregnant, I had trained to become a Doula, so that I could support other women to have the birth that they desire. I have no plans to have anymore children, but if I did, I would choose an unassisted birth once again. As a woman, our bodies are designed to give birth and as long as we look after ourselves, we should trust in our bodies capabilities.
Then there is the question of education. It is illegal in some European countries, to home school your children. But that has not stopped me from doing so. It is not exactly legal where I am now, but I do not agree with the way in which the educational system indoctrinate our children.
How there is no emphasis on teaching real life skills, but instead in preparing them for work within the system. A system which enslaved us all.
Perhaps my views are radical, but when it comes to the well being of my children, that is my responsibility and one that I take very seriously. Because I want nothing more, than for them to take responsibility for their own lives.
This is my response to the following prompt, from the Weekend Engagement Challenge.
When, if ever, is it ok to break the law and would you personally do so? Explain your answer in at least 400 words. No fictional stories in response.
