The first time, I lay eyes on each one of my daughters, I felt such a huge wave of love towards them, it blew me away, the sheer force of it. If I had already, not been close to the ground, I would have surely fallen to it then. It simply, goes beyond words.
Alongside that love, came a fierce need to protect them. Looking into their eyes, I knew I would do anything, to keep them safe. My maternal instinct, kicked in strong. Something all animals experience.
As they grow, it grows with them. Only, I also want them to be able to protect themselves. So my grip loosens a little, as they begin to really experience the world for themselves. But my hands will always be there, no matter what age they are, at least that is how, I imagine it will be.
So I see it, as my duty, to make sure that they eat well, spend time outdoors and keep active, to ensure that they grow up strong and healthy.
But I would do anything for them, to keep them safe and for that, I also need to be healthy and fit, so that I can be there for them physically as well as emotionally.
As a solo mama, living on my own with my 3 girls, I need to be able to defend them, if the need ever arises. I can certainly stand up for myself, although I would never go looking for a fight. Like most folks, I am not a fan of violence.
But if I had to fight someone to protect my girls, I wouldn't think twice about it, I would be on them straight away. I have never trained in any sort of martial arts, but I have learnt a few defensive skills and I would certainly know how to attack someone.
I can only imagine, that my natural maternal instincts would kick in and I would do whatever I could. With the way the world is going, I have been thinking a lot about taking up kick boxing or something similar.
I tried it once, years ago when I was in my early twenties, living in London, but it wasn't for me. But I think I might be ready for it now, I really want to also be able to show my girls a few ways they can physically defend themselves.

Archery is also something I would like to try out as well. ( shoutout to , who is already doing it) I do think it is important to have some sort of weapon/tool at your home. At the moment I have my Hurley Stick, not really a weapon, but wow, it could do some damage.
There were quite a few options in the latest Weekend Engagement Challenge, but when I read the following question, it was an easy answer for me.
Would you ever cause physical harm to someone to protect your family?
I really don't condone violence, but I will use it to protect my family, no questions asked, if anyone was to attack them. I would use anything within my reach to defend them. If there was nothing I could use, well of course I would fight with my hands and feet. Which is why, I should really just sign up for those kick boxing lessons.
