So I get to spend New Year's Eve with one person, who is not a friend, a partner or member of my family. I had to think about this one. It's New Year, so I want to be with someone who knows how to have fun and has the stamina to pull an all-nighter with me. If I am going to have a night off, then I am going to make sure that I make the most of it.
So on that note, they have to love music and like to jam as well. So a musician I think, someone who is not afraid to speak about some uncomfortable truths, cos I really appreciate diving deep with folk. Cos how are things going to change if we don't talk about what needs to b changed.
So yes, someone I can have fun with but also connect with.
So for this one day and night, I would choose Mike Love. This guy is seriously gifted, can play a lot of instruments and can beat box, so I imagine he would be great at improv, which is what I really like to do.
He's from Hawaii, so why not fly over there, it's somewhere I would like to visit and if I get to visit anywhere then why not there. Plus he's a vegan. How do I know, cos he has it tattooed on him. So providing food for us both would not be a problem and it gives us even more things to talk about when we are not singing or exploring.
We would begin our celebrations with a trek in the rainforest. Damn I would be perfectly happy by myself in the rainforest. I imagine that Mike would know some good spots to visit, which include a waterfall or too. Stopping very now and again to take in the sights and sounds and to jam.
I would have my Bodhran Drum with and he would have a guitar and a small hand drum. Water is a must as is a selection of nuts and healthy snacks. The trees would be full of wonderful tropical fruits, which would leave us spoiled for choice. Which of course, would require some tree climbing.
Reaching the waterfall, we would jump into cool off and chat about the way in which we see the world and what our plans our to create a better one. Then it's time for more music and a little bit of green enjoyed in a handmade pipe, that was crafted locally.
Have a listen to this and then you will know why I choose Mike Love to spend the new year with.
As the light begins to fade, we head to the edge of the rainforest, where we are met by white sands and then the beautiful blue ocean. We find a spot to leave our belongings and then go in search of some fire wood. Where we begin to build a fire. Once it is lite, we strip off and jump in the ocean.
After our glorious swim, we decide to eat some fruit and nuts. Looking though my backpack, I find the surprise I had brought me, some very special mushrooms. I chop them and add them to the raw chocolate balls that I have brought with me.
The sun has set , the fire is blazing and we give thanks for all that we have and all that we are about to receive. Our thanks lead us into song and we lose ourselves in the music, in the sound of the waves crashing and the mighty star filled sky above us.
The night is spend, singing, laughing, playing, swimming and enjoying life to the fullest. We have no idea when it reaches midnight, it doesn't really matter, cos each moment is a celebration.
This is my response, to the following writing prompt from the latest Weekend Engagement Challenge.
If you could spend New Years Eve with only one person (other than your friends, partner or family) who would that be and why, and tell us what the evening would be like. Explain your answer in at least 350 words and remember, your current friends, partner and family are excluded.
