Hello community, this Saturday I had the incredible experience of receiving the Caballo de Coral Literary Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded by the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Center to its most outstanding graduates of that year after a rigorous review of their texts.
In my case, it was a novel project I started writing this year more to get out of an emotional funk than with any major literary interests, but to my surprise, it ended up working out in that sense as well.
The day started off full of emotions, to be honest, especially considering I had to travel across the country to be able to attend the awards ceremony. A few hours before, I met up with my friends from the course again, some of whom had also been nominated.
Of course, before that, there was the whole process of waking up early and crossing half of Havana looking for transportation with my best friend to try to get there on time, which, by the way, we arrived way too early that day.
The awards ceremony began around 11 a.m., first with the introduction of the new students starting the school year, and then with a drumroll, the Caballo de Coral scholarships and the Dulce Vita award (which another longtime friend had won, and I was also in charge of collecting it) were presented. We ended the morning celebrating with cake and laughter.
These connections between young people interested in literature don't happen very often, which is why it's so gratifying when you can truly feel this passion for literature unites us.
