An exciting weekend when finding out that Sword and Board hobby shop was hosting a Star Wars Legion tournament.
Star Wars Legion is a tabletop wargame where you take command of one of 4 forces:
- Droid Army
- Clone Troopers
- The Empire (Storm Troopers)
- Rebels
Some of these factions did intersect with each other in the story but regardless, this strategy game pits them all together.
There are various special characters and I am fairly sure that Luke Skywalker never needed to deal with Clone Troopers and Droids, he does well enough!
The Wookies can work for either Rebels or Clones as they were allies at some stage.
There is talk of a 5th Faction - The Mandalorians coming as both a playable faction as well as a mercenary band that can be hired to join your main force.
In any case, the boys - and
wanted to go to the hobby store to play Pokemon. The boys also have some of their "Mark-money" that they wanted to spend on buying some cards.
We have a system in our house where we reward the kids based on the results of their term school performance. In tiers, the better they do, the more money they get. They get extra if they are at a level 7, which is like getting an A. Conversely at a low level, at a 4 which is like a D, they don't get rewarded.
No 4's for either of these boys. So Matthew bought around 30 cards and got some energy cards for free and then bought a Dragon Shield card sleeve kit. Meren just bought a handfull of cards to add to his collection.
Then the boys settled down to play Pokemon and Forbidden Desert in the upstairs hall. I went downstairs and got to hang out with some of my friends that were either playing in the tournament or playing on one of the tables.
We had a blast. I think it is time to dust off my Warhammer 40,000 collection before I am tempted to start collecting something else!
