โ๏ธ ๐ My first electric bass...
Hello musical souls, gathered around the lowest frequencies.
Music enthusiasts, I'm happy because I bought my first electric bass, and I'm delighted it's a Washburn Taurus T-24.
I share with you my humble first opinions about this musical instrument.
โ๏ธ ๐ Wood and hardware
Maple, mahogany, rosewood and chrome body
To start, I love the shape it has. It's a matter of taste, of course, but I found it interesting, agile, modern, a little aggressive and compact in its line. I clarify that I also like the more traditional and vintage Jazz or Precision type basses. All string instruments fascinate me, I have to say it.
In this case the body of my bass is made of mahogany in a natural matte finish. And the neck is made of plywood that adds maple. And I love the chrome silver hardware.
The fretboard is made of very soft rosewood. The tones of the wood are pleasant and its touch is comfortable, ergonomic and polished. The instrument is also very light.
I chose this matte natural color because it gives me an organic feeling that is very comfortable to hold in my hands. I spend a lot of time in the garden working with the Plant Kingdom, it is like an extension of my job. With a beautiful tree trunk, which has transmuted its body to be a musical instrument. The least I could do is get some sweet and mature notes from it (that's what I'm working on this last year).
And it has Dual Washburn J-Style Pickups electronics. With 2 volume and 2 tone controls.
The bass hardware is all chrome and combines very well with the dark tones of the woods.
โ๏ธ ๐ Touch
I immediately put it on with the strap on my shoulder and noticed that it fell very balanced, remaining in a balanced position that allows you to touch it comfortably without your head falling down. It is very light for a 34 scale bass, and that is always important for me because having the instrument hanging for many hours is exhausting but necessary.
The distance between the frets seemed very excessive to me at first of course haha, because I come from the world of guitar. But you soon get used to the new separations between semitones and with time and developing a little more strength in your fingers, it becomes really smooth to play (because I was lucky that its previous owner had it very well calibrated, and with the strings with low action).
So far everything has been positive in my approach with this instrument just from observing it and having it in my hands.
And I think that is already a very important part of getting in touch with a new instrument. I never played the bass and I start motivated in these months because I can visualize myself and I know that it will accompany me, teaching me many things in the future path.
Practice
I am incorporating information basically through watching all the YouTube channels that teach bass classes in any language. There is material to progress a lot and well, I feel that it is like an open university and the classes are free. I have no excuses not to learn this year. And my desire is to further develop the skill of listening.
Of course this year I would also like to take some private lessons with bass teachers who are currently playing in bands.
โ๏ธ ๐ Sound
If anyone's interested, I can upload a homemade video to 3speak in a few days showing how it sounds. Or ask a friend for a sound card for a few days and record in better quality.
Hugs, friends, thanks a lot ๐
