Lessons from Chester: Discovering Self-Acceptance
In the midst of the tiring, killing, never-ending hustle of daily life, there's one companion, one friend who never fails to remind me of the simple joys and the importance of self-reflection, a dog. Yes, that's right, my furry neighbor has become a mirror, reflecting back to me the essence of who I am and teaching me valuable lessons along the way. I do not own a dog and due to my job, I can not adopt one. Because I am working abroad frequently and there is no one at home that can take care of my dog. But the one you see in the picture is Chester, he belongs to my neighbor.
We often go for walks in nature with Chester. We go on trips and walks in our neighborhood. Sometimes I thought we traveled together more than the owner, but as I mentioned... his love is enough for everyone. He is very happy when he sees me too.
Usually, I'm pushing myself too hard in the harsh responsibilities and obligations, that loyal companion serves as a gentle reminder to slow down and take a moment to see me through his eyes. Dogs have an incredible ability to perceive our true nature, beyond the facades we often wear for the world. He can see me truly and at all times. That is magic.
With his wagging tail and soulful eyes, my furry neighbor sees the problems that preoccupy my thoughts. He doesn't care about my appearance, my achievements, or the pressures I face. Or my money. Instead, he focuses on the essence of my being, the kindness in my heart, the love I offer, and the simple joys we can live and experience together.
When I'm caught up in the chaos of life, my canine neighbor serves as a beacon of love and mindfulness. He finds delight in the smallest of moments—a gentle breeze, the rustling of leaves, or the excitement of playtime. With that, I can feel alive again. I feel like there is nothing more than ''now'' and always enjoy the ''now''.
In his company, I've learned to carve out time for self-reflection in the most unexpected ways. We embark on leisurely strolls through the park, exploring the neighborhood together. As I watch him sniff the air, chase after cats, and be alive... I find myself ''rushing'' in life..? Do you know what I mean? It feels so fast.
His carefree spirit encourages me to let go of the burdens that weigh me down and to find joy in the present moment. Chester's non-judgmental presence creates a safe space for me to think about my own emotions, passions, aspirations, and challenges. In his eyes, I see a reflection of resilience and a reminder that I, too, have the strength to overcome obstacles.
I just need some time and relax.
Mirrored Love, Finding Love by Seeing Ourselves in Street Dogs Lovely Eyes
Stray dogs also have a special place in my heart. Whenever I encounter them on my daily adventures, I can't help but stop and admire their resilience and the love they radiate. Their wagging tails and hopeful eyes reflect a pure and genuine love that transcends their circumstances. As I show them love, they are able to give back and more.
Lately, I have made it my personal mission to show compassion to these stray dogs whenever I can. I carry a bag of food with me, ready to share a small token of nourishment and affection. Yes, I can't always do that, but at least there is a market around where I can buy something to feed them. When I give them food, I witness a light of gratitude and satisfaction in their eyes - an undeniable reflection of the love they receive.
We cannot love a person we have never met, but they can. In their company, I am reminded that love knows no boundaries and no conditions. Their simple presence encourages me to embrace the joy of giving, even in the smallest of actions.
Through the reflection of love in their eyes, stray dogs have become a source of inspiration, a source of happiness, and even a reminder of the love between all beings. They often remind me of the blissful and reciprocated power of showing kindness, even to those who seem forgotten or ignored.
That's all I wanted to write today. I often recommend looking into the eyes of these mute creatures if you want to see the reflection of love within you, thank you very much for reading.
