Hello everyone you're welcome to my blog today
The waiting rooms smells friendly with disinfectants and old newspapers arranged cleanly on the table. The children arranged in rolls with their legs scraping against the tiles whenever someone shifted while sitting on it a big television hung on the wall muted but showing in Nigerian movie, The fan on the ceiling kept moving like it was tired of life.
Seven familiar figures scattered around the room everybody acting like they were noticing each other well that happens almost everywhere an elderly woman in a red rapper carried a bag that she checked every 5 minutes she would whisper a silence prayer you could clearly see that her lips were barely moving.
Close to the door sat a young lady in a faded hoodie tapping her foot aggressively on the floor she stared at her phone but had not yet touched the phone in the past 15 minutes. Her eyes darted to the corners anytime the nurses passed from the hallway to the main ward.
Across from her there was a heavily pregnant woman who was leaning back carefully with her hand on her belly, her husband was standing beside her we are reassuring her with words and at the same time trying to make himself look strong. He kept on glancing at the receptionist hoping that their name will be called so that he and his wife will be able to get medical attention.
A little girl with flowing hair kept flinging her legs on the chairs that was obviously too tall for her as she looked like a doll on the chair, occasionally she would look at her mother and ask mommy how long would it take again her mom smile at her and said soon though she didn't know if that was true because they have stayed there for a very long time.
At the far corner sat a middle aged man in his Ankara up and down his hands were closed tightly between the styles his breathing was heavy but steady as if he was holding on to something very fragile to him.
The waiting room was filled with so much tension and quiet it wasn't peaceful, it was thick and it held so many invisible stories everyone here was waiting to hear their diagnosis , assurance that could change everything.
The nurse stepped out and called the name of the elderly woman madam Agnes and she stood up slowly making sure her scarf was tied properly and disappeared down the hallway and the room fell back into silence.
The young lady sitting by the corner finally unlocked her phone it looked like she was typing a message but she later erased it, The young man who was standing next to his wife who was heavily pregnant looked at her and smiled and they shared something that only them could understand but no one else could.
Minutes past like hours the little girl began to sing a Barbie song on off key but somehow it made the room feel less tensed as it made everybody turn around to look at her it was like her voice lightened up everywhere even the old man in Ankara looked up and smiled at her.
Finally another name was called the room grew more quiet but the air remained heavily filled with uncertainties time stretched and as few people sat down with their fears and tears , awaiting the outcome and the result that the nurses and doctors would give to them
Finally it got to The turn of the man and his pregnant wife and when they went in ,it didn't take long for them to come out and they had smiles on their faces and it happened that she was due to give birth the next week and the doctors have told them to go and prepare for their bundle of joy. The little girl and her mother went to see the doctors after waiting for a very long time, the joy on her face as she jumped and hopped alongside her mother made everyone look at her and smile.
The waiting room that looked like it was never coming to an end finally started feeling a little bit lighter as everyone got the attention they needed. And there was no very terrible news even the old man saw the doctor's and was only diagnosed of waist pain which made him feel a little more better that when he came into the hospital. Most times we find ourselves in waiting rooms we just have to be patient and let nature do it to work and not overthink it.
