"Dear God, it's me again, you know, the little girl with brown hair and...wait, I'm sorry for calling out to you this late knowing it might probably be your bed time. But I need you to help me once again, I need a friend, someone, anyone that'll stay, I'm tired of being alone, just do this one thing for me, amen."
Six year old Samantha quietly concluded her prayer as she stood up from her bed side and climbed onto her bed tucking in Fredo (her hand made toy) first and then doing same to herself as she closed her eyes to sleep, a drop of tear escaping her eye.
Samantha was a sweet girl, beautiful and very brilliant (almost genius), she was the kind of child that paid a lot of attention to detail and clearly also had a mind of her own. At four, she'd pointed out to the day care teacher that the cat was drawn wrong, all cats have whiskers but this one wasn't in any way like any she'd seen before and even though she couldn't talk she made sure to add that detail in her coloring.
One other time, she was so annoyed that her class mate had fed their little gold fish tuna when they ran out of fish food. Who for heaven's sake, feeds tuna to a fish? That act had ended up with her friend's hair being pulled, yeah Samantha could get a little violent. But who could blame her, at a very tender age she'd had to go through so much pain.
Her mom died while giving birth to her, leaving her with her father and her fifteen year old sister. Everything had been going perfectly until their dad passed away later from diabetes, his insurance couldn't cover up for his treatment and on one of such attacks he gave up. Samantha couldn't help but ask God why it happened, but she didn't get any reply except for a note from God, it was written in bold letters I gat you but then she had to correct his wrong spelling, why would He make such a silly mistake.
"Hey Sammy, it's time for school, wakey wakey", Jena storms into her little sister's room and drags the covers from her body.
"I don't want to go to school!", Samantha protested and pulled the covers over her face again.
"Is there a reason for this recent behavior young lady?", Jena replied with a stern look.
"You're not my mom, don't call me "young lady"
"Ohhh, really!, Well I'm the one in charge, so tell me, what's wrong??, Are you hurt?, Do you have a fever?" Jena ran her hand over Samantha's body to be sure her sister was alright. Samantha pushes her hand away and sits upright with her hands folded, then a little tear ran down her cheek.
"Everyone hates me in school, I had a fight with Clara yesterday after she called Fredo hideous, like she even has the sense to make something this special and then the rest of my friends wouldn't let me play dress up with them. Nobody wants to be friends with me, am I toxic Jena? Because I heard my teacher use that word when he was referring to waste, nobody loves waste and nobody wants to be around it"
"No honey, don't say such a thing. You're not toxic, you're the sweetest and my..you surely are brilliant, you're special Sammy and people would not always understand that, I love you and I'm sure you're one to never back down. I think you should go show all your friends what they're missing by not being friends with you, think you can handle that?", She said as she wiped off the tears that ran down her sister's eyes. Samantha rushed into an embrace and held her sister tight.
"Hey cupcake, you'll get late if you don't get up this minute!", she threw her sister off the bed and chased her into the bathroom amidst strong laughter, then she watched as Samantha took her time to brush her teeth, every stroke mattered as Samantha was obsessed with detail. When it was time for her to take her bath, Samantha looked at her, then with her hand, motioned for her to get out, the little girl needed her privacy, but then Jena didn't move.
"Jena! Weren't you taught to not watch people while they bathe!", Samantha, not having it, pushed her sister out the door with all her might but then she was only successful to push her some few paces, then she fell down or faked a fall. Jena now concerned had to walk out the door herself to avoid any more drama. The little girl showered and sang her favorite song The anthill, then she got out and got dressed, she had always done that with so much ease on her own.
Then she got into the dinning where a glass of milk and a plate of Jena's specially made Pancakes stared back at her. She got down to business and ate gracefully right on time before the bus came around. She gave her sister a kiss and ran off, then she waved at her sister before entering the bus. Clara and her group of friends were seated on the first row and they all made funny faces at her while she passed through the aisle, it was surely going to be a long day, she thought to herself.
"You'd want to move this piece there and that one there, the queen would be trapped", he did exactly as Samantha had said and in the next two moves he won the game.
"Would you like to sit with me?", Jimmy said to Samantha with a big smile on his face as the bus zoomed of. I guess even the littliest of prayers do get answered.
