There was a girl named Ma Pukwe in Dhanitaw village. Ma Pukwe was a fourth-grade student at a government school in Dhanitaw village. She didn't mind going to school, but she was very lazy about studying. That's why she was the laziest in her class. She was constantly criticized by her teacher.
One day, the teacher told the whole class that they had to memorize two Mangal Suttas by the next day. She also said that the one who could recite the best would be rewarded with a dozen blank books and six pencils.
So the whole class got excited. They didn't say they would accept the teacher's award, but they were thinking about it in their hearts. Among them was Ma Pukwe.
Ma Pukwe really wanted the award. So she decided to memorize the Mangal Suttas.
That evening, Ma Pukwe arrived home, took a bath. She had an early meal. Then she went to the back fence and studied. She studied ten times, but she could not get it. Finally, she became discouraged. So she lowered her hands and stared at the fence.
While she was watching, she saw a snail crawling up the fence. The snail was very slow. Ma Pukwe thought that it would not be able to reach the fence very quickly. However, in the end, the snail reached the top of the fence.
Ma Pukee felt discouraged as she looked at the snail. She saw that if she reached it like the snail, she would eventually succeed.
So Ma Pukwe got up and tried hard and studied again.
The rain had set, but she did not stop studying. After the rain had set, she went back inside and continued studying. At 9 o'clock at night, she could recite it quite well, and she went to bed happy.
When the next morning dawned, Ma Pukwe got up and memorized it. Before school time came, she could recite the two Mangal Suttas without a hitch.
Ma Pukwe went to school at 9 o'clock in the morning. When she went to school, the teacher called all the students to the front one by one and asked them to recite the two Mangal Suttas.
Many of the students could recite it. However, they often forgot one or two letters, so the teacher helped them.
Finally, Ma Pukwe's turn came. Then the students laughed around. They did not think that Ma Pukwe would be able to recite it as well as they did.
Ma Pukwe did not say anything. She got up from his seat and went to the teacher. Then he recited the two Mangal Suttas without missing a single letter. The teacher was very surprised. The whole class was surprised and applauded enthusiastically.
The teacher asked the class who was the best among those who memorized today.
The whole class answered that Ma Pukee was the best. Then the teacher told the whole class how Ma Pukwe studied so that she could memorize every word.
Ma Pukwe explained that she had learned from the little snail. Ma Pukwe was the best in the class and received the prize given by the teacher.
