This is probably the most violent post I've seen accepted by The Ink Well- a testament to how well written it is! There is a rule against excessive gore, yet we wouldn't have this shocking tale if you cut that struggle or reworded it. I think it is a good example of not over doing it (it was a tiny bit too much for me, but I'm VERY squeamish) and having a fight that is PART of the story, not the story itself.

You drew me in from the first paragraph, your descriptions are incredible! The ability to jump scenes to add in backstory is one I greatly admire as well, not everyone can do that!
