The sounds of barking dogs, falling in her ears, scared her more but she was still running, maybe she had no other way, maybe running on the deserted road was her last way. Tears were falling from her eyes which were disappearing with the raindrops. After running far and wide, she found a place where she could get help from someone in the heavy rain. Yes, it was an old house in which she could see the light.
She rushed to the door and knocked on the door of the house with trembling hands.
"Who's out?" A man's voice came from inside, and hearing his voice she became more afraid.
"My name is Noor, can you help me, it's raining hard outside, and my car has broken down," she said in a scared tone, she didn't know who the man inside was, and how many people were inside, would he help her or get her into more trouble, she only knew that she had to hide somewhere in this merciless rain.
"Come in" opened the door and an old woman was standing in front with a voice that sounded like a man's voice.
Noor was entering inside taking small steps, but her mind was forced to think how a woman's voice could match a man's voice.
"Have you eaten anything?" The woman was now questioning her as she closed the door.
"No, I'm not hungry"Noor suddenly got out of her thoughts.
"Sit down," the old woman pointed to a sofa and went to light the fire herself.
"You live here alone?" Noor asked stuttering while sitting on the sofa.
"Yes, I live alone, why is it impossible to live alone?" The old woman was holding a firewood in her hand and was looking at the Noor.
"Ya, you can also live alone, I was just asking," Noor said, scared to see the woman's eyes on her.
"I've been living alone since I was twenty." The old woman was now starting to light the fire again.
"Why do you live alone, you don't have a family. And even if you live alone, why do you live so far away from the city, you can live in the city too." Noor was still looking at the old woman
"You were surprised by my voice, and the world is also surprised, they start looking at me with strange eyes, I don't have a place in the world, or maybe I couldn't make my place." The fire had burned out and the old woman was now looking for something in a drawer.
"You had no place in the world, but why your family didn't care for you?" Noor was talking while drying her hair with a towel lying on the sofa, maybe she was not afraid anymore.
"You didn't have a place in the world, but your family doesn't care about you either?" Noor was now looking at the old woman holding a towel in her hand.
"I killed my father, my mother went to prison to save me," the old woman said, while still rummaging in the drawer.
Noor was now very shocked, she was trembling again, and the fear that had just died had now reawakened.
"Why did you kill him?" Noor was now looking at the old woman standing in her place with questioning eyes
"Is it easy to stand out in society? Do you think people can control a stand-alone person easily? They don't."
My father wanted a son, but I was a girl, and my voice, when I spoke, I was beaten, when I grew up, my father decided to sell me... When my mother found out, she fought with my father. My father injured my mother, she was writhing in pain. To save my mother I killed my father with an iron rod. I killed him, he was my father, but I killed him.” A drop of tear fell from the old woman's eye.
"How are you managing living alone, how are you living?" she said to the old woman, Noor's voice now had sympathy
"I spent a period of my life without speaking. People thought I was dumb. I used to work in a place. One day they also found out that my voice was like a man's voice. They started teasing me. Done, I used to be more respected, I added some money and sold my parents' house. Here I find peace, here no one teases me about anything" The old woman wiped her tears and got up from her seat.
"Where are you going?" Noor was asking seeing them going somewhere.
"I will make arrangements for your sleep, the bus will come here in the morning and you will be able to go back with that bus" After saying this, the old woman went to the room.
Noor was lost in the thought of how a change of voice can make a person a spectacle among people, how someone can hurt God's creation so much.
.
"Will you ever come back to see me?" The old woman was standing at the door holding Noor's hand
"I will definitely come and bring you many gifts" Noor was smiling and comforting the old lady.
"Try to come back as soon as possible" the old woman said and let go of her hand
"I will come soon" Noor was thinking about her quick words, but she shook off the thought and now she was smiling again.
.
Noor had returned and was busy with her work, she had forgotten that someone would be waiting for her.
When Noor reached there after years, tears began to flow from her eyes after seeing the scene... the old woman who was waiting for her had passed away... she had a paper in her hand on which "Noor my daughter, I am waiting for you" was written. Was she dead? She was killed while waiting.
