We arrived at my classroom, the door was open, so we went in.
—Good morning,— said my mother.
My teacher Xiomara with a smile on her face, came to greet us, saying:
—Good morning, come in, welcome Inés, good to have you back, we missed you.—
I let go of my mother and walked hurriedly to sit next to Angela, because we had an agreement to sit together, she in the back desk and I in the front, whoever arrived first took the other's seat; To my disappointment a girl unknown to me, occupied what should be my seat, so I had to take another seat, I felt sad, betrayed by my friend, who had broken an agreement of long time.
At recess time Angela was with this girl, who apparently not only occupied my place in the classroom, she had also stayed with my best friend, so I sat down to snack alone on a bench.
—Inés, Inés— said Ángela, as she approached me.
I didn't answer her, when I saw that she was coming with that new girl, I got more upset than I already was.
—This is Maritza,— she said.
The girl approached me with her hand outstretched, I just said hello, but I did not shake her hand, Angela knew me very well, she knew I was angry, she sat next to me, I got up and told them I was going to the bathroom, but it was just an excuse not to be there with them; At that time I was very jealous and I did not want to share my best friend with this stranger.
I dodged my friend for many days, she would approach but I ignored her, because she was always with this new friend.
—You don't want to be my friend anymore?— Angela asked me one day.
—It was you who changed me, of course you have a new best friend,— I said angrily.
—Why do you say?— that?— I wanted to get close to you, but you didn't want to talk to me, Maritza is just another classmate, but you are still my best friend.—
—It doesn't seem so, because you broke the agreement we had to always sit together because of her,— I told her.
Angela kept thinking, then she explained to me that for several days, she set aside a desk for me, but then the teacher did not allow her to continue doing it, with the excuse that no student had a fixed seat, so she could not set it aside anymore, as for Maritza she told me that she was a new student, that she came from another city, somewhat shy, no child approached her, so she tried to help her to adapt to the group.
—So we are still best friends?— I asked her.
—We always will be,— Angela replied.
We hugged, the next day when I got to the classroom, there was a desk set aside for me, by my best friend, at that moment I realized that our agreement was still in force, I was quick to draw conclusions, it was a misunderstanding on my part, that we were able to clarify, After many years we are still best friends, we stopped studying together, but we always visited each other, today our contact is only by phone, because Angela moved to Colombia, where she formed a family, but I know that someday we will give each other a hug, whether she comes or I can go to visit her.
