As the candles were blown out, the lights in the whole town went off which was alarming to everyone, whispers spread all around the house and most people were trying to figure out what Liana had wished for and if it was what affected the lights.
“Gather some candles everyone”, Liana’s grandmother said while whisking her away to her room.
“Stay here Liana, don't open the door for anyone”.
Liana who had just turned 16 stayed in her room obeying her grandma, she didn't understand what was happening and why her wish had just come true.
She didn't even mean for her wish to happen, she simply felt awkward when everyone was singing “happy birthday” to her and simply wished that the lights would go off which it did.
“How did my wish come true and what would happen if I made another one”, Liana thought.
Quickly, she decided to lock her doors and try to make another wish, but what could she wish for though; maybe her favorite meal, a new coat, or something else?
Finally, she settled that she would wish for a dog because she had always wanted one, and if her wishes were coming true then it was the perfect time to get one.
“I wish for a dog”, Liana said aloud.
She waited for a few minutes to see if a dog would appear, but nothing happened and this made Liana question what went wrong now and what had happened then.
Sighing in disappointment, she decided to climb onto her bed, but stopped when a sound came from her wardrobe.
Looking in the direction and walking towards it, she saw movements which frightened her but before she could run away, a tiny terrier ran towards her making her fall down and the dog began licking her which made her laugh.
“My wish came true, it truly did but how?”
Liana decided not to concern herself with the hows and just enjoy her new dog, but after a few minutes of playing, she heard a knock that startled her.
“Who is there?”
“It's me, your grandmother”
The response immediately made Liana open her door and her grandmother walked in and was shocked when she saw the dog.
“Made another wish, haven't you, Ana”
Liana laughed which made her grandmother chuckle too, but after she stopped laughing, she proceeded to ask her grandmother how it was possible that her wishes were coming true.
Her grandmother took a deep breath and explained to Liana how her great grandfather had helped a fairy who got lost and in exchange, the fairy gifted his lineage with the ability to make wishes when they turned 16, but for some reason, the power skipped certain people including her grandmother and mother.
She further explained that while it was an amazing gift, Liana needed to make wishes that weren't selfish and would help others just like her great grandfather had helped the fairy.
Liana nodded her head and promised her grandmother that she would only use her wishes for good and from that day forward that was what she did.
She helped her community anyway she could and because of her wishes, her town prospered and they lived in peace.
