Standing by the lawn, I could see Grace and Mary talking to each other aggressively, and I wondered what was going on. They are best friends, and I know for sure that friends do argue, but this seemed quite different.
Grace is a fair, beautiful lady with brown eyes that sparkle like silver. Clapping her hands, "Grace said Good morning, Mr. Peter", Grace was looking for an apartment to rent. She came to meet Mr. Peter, who is the owner of our apartment. Mr. Peter snapped his fingers "There is a room here", he told Grace. I was surprised by what Mr. Peter just said. I can remember a young man coming to rent an apartment, but Mr. said there was no room left. Grace signed the necessary documents and paid for the room. I shook my head and asked Mr. Peter "You told the young man that just left that there was no room left for rent". With a smile, he replied, "Can't you see how beautiful she looks?"
Well, that was true. Grace looked like a goddess of beauty.
It was a bright Saturday morning, and a van drove into our parking lot. Grace and her friend came down from the van, and I was in awe of their beauty. I walked up to the beautiful ladies with my fingers locked together and said, "Let me help you beautiful ladies with some of your stuff". They smiled and echoed "Thank you". I helped them arrange their room, and I got to know them better. They asked me so many questions about the apartment, and I was glad to tell them all I knew.
The ladies came to my room the next day; their beauty lit up my room, and I was happy to see them. Grace said with a smile on her face "Your room looks beautiful". I was glad she could appreciate my little effort in decorating the room. Shaking my legs, I asked the ladies "What should I offer you guys". Mercy stomped her foot on the ground and said, "We want you to be our witness." I was surprised by this, so I asked her what the problem was. Mercy tapped Grace on the shoulder and said "We have both decided that we won't date the landlord because he is asking us out". I smiled and replied, "That was the right thing to do" .
I noticed that Grace was always coming down from our landlord's car almost every evening, and I was not bothered about that. On this particular evening, I was with one of my neighbors, and as Grace walked past us, he said, rubbing his hands on his thighs "The scuttlebutt in the estate is that Grace is dating our landlord". I looked at him, and I was surprised; he is not one to say things he is not sure of. I became worried because I knew if Mary heard about this, it could cause a problem between the two of them.
As I walked towards Grace and Mercy, I could feel the tension between them. With my hands in the air, I asked the ladies, "Can you guys come to the place and let's talk about what the problem is?" They moved immediately, heading towards my room; I had to run after them. I was afraid they might attack each other.
We got to my room, and I offered them soda and some cupcakes. I knew they loved cupcakes; they all ate the cupcakes, and the tension between them had reduced. I asked Grace what the problem was, and shaking her head, she said "Mary is accusing me of dating the landlord". Mary, with her arms open, responded, "Is it a lie?" Mary turned to me with her arms folded together "The gossip in the estate is that Grace is dating the landlord; after we agreed that we wouldn't do that, she has betrayed our friendship". I smiled, saying "It has not come to that extent; give me an hour, and I promise you guys the truth will be revealed".
I went over to meet our landlord; I was going to pay my rent, and I never had the intention of asking about his relationship with Grace. He looked at me and smiled with his arms resting on the cushion. He said, "You have come to ask me about my relationship with Grace; well, there is nothing between the two of us; I just picked her up on my way back from work at the council office. I heard the scuttlebutt that we are dating". I was happy about this, and I asked him if he could come to my place and say what he just told me. He agreed and came over to my place.
Our landlord repeated what he told me earlier, and I could see the surprise on Mary's face. It was one of disappointment. On her knees, Mary said "Grace, forgive me for believing the gossip". Shaking her legs, Grace replied, "You are my best friend, Mary; I have never done anything without telling you. Why would I start now? Stand up, I forgive you". Mary stood, and they hugged each other. I was happy for them; at least a rumor did not destroy their friendship.
