In the morning of a works free Friday, sitting on a couch and caught up in a feeling of strong anxiety, Ken was almost in tears. He has missed it yet again, for the umpteenth time. "What's my problem?" "Same mistake over and over again". He was lost in deep thoughts, this time with confusion and regrets written all over him. The awful event of the day before flashed through his troubled mind. He had talked back at someone discourteously, without a thought of an aftereffect. It was his dear friend, Bisola. He had without caution walked out on her, banging the door behind him, right at her face - it was a real bang, so loud that Bisola felt a huge lump go down her throat, she was really heartbroken.
Bisola had informed him of an ongoing application the week before. He needed it badly to make his career dreams come true. He needed a stake in one of the biggest law firms in the country. He had tried all he could to make it through but ended up in futility: even with his excellent track record and performance in his previous and current place of work, he could not make it to any of the interviews, let alone getting the job. Bisola helped him made it through the entire process - the needed contacts, updates and followup. As long as his growth and major successes as a young lawyer was concerned, she was a prime factor. She was truly a positive influence in his life.
In the morning of the day of the duel, Bisola had dialed his line for quite a number of times to no avail. She wanted to inform him of a change in plan on the firm's mode of interview for its new intakes. She resolved to go see him, along with her dearly beloved friend, Anuri.
They got to his house only to hear from his gateman that he was busy with something inside. Bisola tried explaining to the man the reason and urgency of their unannounced visit but the man wouldn't hear. At that instant, she felt something was not right. The gate man knew who she was to Ken his boss. She was very familiar with the gateman and was known to be affiliated with Ken: she needed no special invitation to see him. "He must have been instructed not to allow anyone in", she thought.
After a long time of fruitless persuasion from Bisola and Anuri, Ken came out of the building. Perhaps, the noise outside drew his attention. On seeing them at the gate, his facial expression turned in to that of an indurate fellow.
Bisola was calm, unlike Anuri who was surprised to see Ken in such a dismal state. She least expected the reaction he portrayed on seeing them. He did not even apologize for keeping them out for so long.
His responses were rash and monosyllabic. He seemed not to be comfortable having them around. After telling him the reason for their visit while standing all along, then came the stroke that broke the Camel's back - he dismissed and shut them out, banging the door behind him. Five seconds seemed like eternity to Bisola, she was lost, everything happened so fast.
She had truly loved Ken all along not minding his ingratitude to her benevolence towards him. She still loved him even after he showed no remorse for the previous wrongs done. Her heart was broken over and over again, yet she easily let things go as though they never happened. Ken on his end was always surprised at the ease of her pardon. He hardly believed her to be a fool even though his actions spelt it. He just knew something wasn't right with him. He knew he was always in the wrong.
After much deliberation and thought for what seemed like eternity, Ken came to himself. "I will regret it if I don't make the necessary restitution to her". He resolved to make things right with Bisola: never to hurt her again, not in his most trying moments. He felt this deep fear within, it was very impressive - the fear of losing her. He was sure he had no endearing friend elsewhere like the one he has in Bisola. She was patient and forgiving to a fault. Maybe, that was why he took her for granted for so long. He suddenly realized he needed her, so much that he could hardly make significant progress without her being involved.
Bisola on her part could not understand why somebody could be so ungrateful even with all her sacrifices and forbearance. Anuri had advised her countless times to cut ties with Ken seeing how difficult it was to please him. "I can't stand his kind of person", she would always say.
Finally, Bisola resolved to have some break from everything that concerns Ken, after all she was fine before they got to know each other. While she was still drowned in thoughts, the door bell rang. She wasn't expecting anybody for the day. At least, not that early: Anuri was in the house. She made her way to the door to know who it is. As she opened the door, there was Ken right before her, looking like a child abandoned by his mother. Before she could comport herself, he came close, held her hands tight and started to apologize. He meant every word he said. She could see it in his eyes. Ken had never been that remorseful ever since they met: he used to be full of himself. Anuri, on her part could hardly believe it waa Ken standing at the door. Bisola couldn't not help it, she could only cry. She has been the emotional type who easily feels things around her. She forgave him without much ado. She let him in and they got along as though nothing happened. Anuri, could only gape. She was surprised how a person could be so forgiving.
The ease with which Bisola forgave Ken really baffled Anuri. She was witness to all of Ken's excesses towards her dear friend. She felt Bisola was lenient to a fault. She however realised that her friend's forbearance gave Ken another chance to change for the better which she felt every person deserves.
