I was told that when my great great grand father died, his landed properties were shared among his male children, not just his direct children but both grand children. This was narrated to me by one of my uncles that's very close to me even though we are not agemate🤗, some years ago. I asked him why he wasn't given any land because he was aware then and he said he was very tender so they considered him not fit for such gift.
When he told me all these, he was full of regret because to him, he should have been considered even though he was very tender, and the point that got him more angry was because some of the people that inherited land were not direct children.
He also said that, if it were to be this modern day that such opportunity popped out, even the children unborn would have been secured a property. Lol😁
You know that kinf of situation when a very wealthy man with many wives dies, sharing of properties always come with war especially when there's no written will.
So, my dad was among the grandchildren then and he got a land inheritance because he was of age then (he was around 18years-25years). What really gave my dad the advantage of getting a land was because he was a homie guy then, he knew almost everything in the family even though he was just a grandchild to the man.
Not only was he given a land as his own inheritance, he was also handed over the pieces of land of others (the city people) to look after them untill they come so people won't trespass or hijack them.
It'll Interest you to know that I know all the various pieces of land because we once farmed on them. Houses have been built on some of them while others are still being used for farming by my parents untill the owners are ready to develop on them.

There's one thing that's very common...
If those properties (especially lands) are not well taken care of or are not being supervised by someone that's available in the community, other people will hijack them and claim them as their own. This scenario occurs often especially when a land's owner dies and the children were not aware of the land before the death of the their father, the chances of the land being hijacked by other family members is 100%.
That's why most times, when the owner of the land and his children are not around, a responsible family gives it to a trusted member of the family to look after till the owner comes... that's the reason why my dad was placed in charge of those pieces of land.
Also, I'm not residing in my village now but I know my father's land because if he goes to heaven today, the lands becomes my heritage and if I decide not to show interest in knowing the lands now, there maybe conflict of ownership in times to come.
In my part of the world, properties are the only thing we get as heritage unlike other places that get royalty, priesthood and others, passed on from generation to generation.
Yes, we have a king but It's being crowned by "the oldest man in the community", so the battle is always on who lives longer..."If you want to become the king, then live long and the crown awaits you"😁
