"Our fate is hanging in the air. Our dedication and efforts of five years is grasping air for survival.
"I rather put a stop to my existence than to live to witness the collapse of my treasure"
All these words were coming out from a young man in a state of dilemma. He is standing in front of mirror in his room. Looking at himself in the mirror, thinking of how his physical appearance is exactly the reflection of that of his father, he continued;
"How will he claim he love me if my emotions means nothing to him? I doubt if that man is my dad"
Still in his standing position, John's sight, through the mirror, was on his girlfriend that was lying down on the couch.
The ever agile Janet is now the shadow of herself. She was lost in the thoughts of what is about to happen to her so much adored relationship of five years. She mustered strength to stand up like a bird drenched by rain. In her response to John, she said;
"Please, don't say that again. No matter what your dad's interest is about you, don't ever jokingly or otherwise doubt his paternity. You said we will be going to see your uncle tomorrow. Let's hope and pray that his intervention will fill the crack in the wall."
This few words of Janet calmed down John's nerves about his father's refusal for him to get married to his girlfriend of five years. Ken, John's father had told him to immediately bury the thoughts of marrying Janet. In his words;
"You can't marry Janet. It has never happened and it won't start during my time. Our clan don't marry hers. It has been like that since the time of my forefathers. Get yourself another woman to marry"

This was the devastating news John had been battling with since the past five days that he visited his father with his girlfriend for introduction. John is dying silently. Foods are becoming tasteless no matter the ingredients, No more joy in what hitherto gave him joy. His love, Janet, on the other hand is finding life unattractive. She lose weight and her shinning beauty like a woman prisoner of war in five days.
Both of them are not finding it easy to read for their examinations that is starting in few days. John is rounding up his degree while Janet has two years to go. They've been dating since when they were in high school.
Janet came up with an idea that could deliver them from their state of worry. She suggested they both visit John's uncle, Bright, to help talk to his brother to have a rethink. Few days later, while they were with the Uncle, John said;
*
"My mental health is under threat.
"Uncle, you brother is not taking my happiness into consideration. This is my girlfriend that I love so much but my dad insisted that I can't marry her due to some ancestral belief. I am not a party to such belief. Please, safe my love!!!"
Bright took his time to narrate some history of the genesis of the whole belief. He concluded by assuring them that such belief is being revolted against.
"Some families have grown above this and I believe ours will do too. Don't worry, I'll try and convince him."
Few days later, Bright accompanied John to Ken's house.
Bright pleaded with his brother to allow the lover birds get married. After hours of talks, Ken agreed to the request. He however told John that the private wedding would be done in his brother's house in the city to avoid his people making a case against him for going against tradition.
Janet was at home restless. She was waiting to hear from John. She was like a docked woman waiting to either be sentenced to death or acquitted of any crime.
Immediately John and his uncle set out of his father's house, he picked his phone and called his ♥ rob;
"Our worry is over. My sanity is back. You are my wife. Dad has agreed"
Janet screamed loud at the other end of the phone and this got the attention of Bright.
"Is that Janet?" he asked.
A visibly elated John answered in the affirmative.
Janet prepared fried rice waiting for his boyfriend so that they celebrate their freedom from emotional prison of five days.
