Jummy, that necklace is a crystal diamond. Look closely, you see it's worth it.
Abel said as he looked around the jewelry shop to buy a surprise birthday gift for Gloria. It was their first anniversary and at the same time, Gloria's birthday. It is the first time that he is considering buying jewelry for his heartthrob. Jummy suggested that Abel buys Gloria a diamond-plated necklace as a gift marking their first anniversary.
This last year has been a jolly good ride for the love birds.
Abel, being a site engineer, rarely had time to have fun or to check out how beautiful a lady looks. His mother had given him several knocks over the issue of marriage. Abel's excuse was that he was a busy man.
On his last visit, his mother rejected all the provisions and other things he bought.
Abel, aren't you going to give me grandchildren?
His mother had queried him. He had turned forty years old already, yet there was no sign of him having an interest in marriage. That evening, Abel became so devastated. It appears that he has pushed his mother to the wall. And like the he-goat, she came ready with a fight. Abel, who had proposed to spend the weekend with his mother, had to leave very early the next morning.
The scene of how his mother rejected everything kept playing in his head for months. This made Abel to start paying attention to some of the things he wouldn't before that encounter with his mother. t
One morning at the recent site he was supervising, his assistant, Jummy noticed that he had changed. She mentioned it to him as he drove out of the site while she sat on the passenger seat. Abel will ordinarily not look at a lady seductively but today, the way he stared at Gloria, the real estate agent who was in charge of sales of the new property that Abel was developing.
It is now crystal clear that Abel could make a good lover but does not have the guts to ask Gloria out on a date. The first time they ever spoke, it was like she was a shy person as she bowed her head in contrition. When Abel noticed it, he simply said to her:
Are you scared of looking at me?
Gloria did not utter a word, she just smiled, ignoring the question.
At the close of the day's work, Abel offered to drop her off at her residence. The next morning, he parked at her gate, waiting for her to come through so he could pick her to work. Gloria did not come out after Abel had been waiting for over three hours. When he could no longer wait and running out of patience, he alighted from his car and entered through the gate, then knocked at the door.
Gloria was so shocked to see Abel.
What are you doing here?
She queried, still in shock that Abel was the last person she was expecting. That day, they talked and talked and Abel saw the opportunity to tell her how he has been feeling towards her. Gloria in her part did not know how to express what she felt about him. She just listened while Abel did all the talking.
After three weeks of pestering her, Gloria accepted Abel's proposal. He was so happy. This was what his mother wanted. Abel just wants to take Gloria home to mama. She would be glad to see her would-be daughter-in-law.
Abel asked Gloria to get prepared one weekend that they would be visiting his mother. That was several months after mama had turned down the gifts Abel brought home for her. All she wanted was to see her grandchild. The excitement was all over Abel. When they reached home, they met mama eating oranges. She was seated in the open lawn in front of the house as Abel halted the engine of his car. He came down and greeted her but mama kept mute. She snubbed him. But when Gloria alighted from the car and walked towards mama to greet her, she dropped the tray of oranges from her laps and stood up. Then Abel introduces Gloria to her. It was a long conversation. All that mama wanted was that the wedding plans didn't take long.
Mama was so glad to finally receive Abe's choice of a wife. It has been a year now and Abel needed help to find the best-treasured jewelry to say thank you to his wife, Gloria. He had to seek the assistance of Jummy who one way or the other helped through his weakness to gain he self-worth and esteem.
