Trust is the bedrock of any relationship or friendship, as once there is no trust, many individuals see no reason to stay, for any relationship or friendship to work out well, the parties involved must learn to trust each other. Sometimes for the sake of peace, your sanity, and avoiding chaos, you just have to trust a friend or a partner until they decide to prove otherwise. The reason many relationships and friendships don't work out is because the people involved don't want to give trusting each other a try at all.
Samuel's case was completely different; he trusts his girlfriend with every fiber in him and won't let what people say be the reason for their quarrels. Instead of starting a fight based on what people say, he just shuts them out.
"Samuel, your girlfriend Rose is cheating on you with a guy called Lucky." Wesley said while we were all enjoying our usual Sunday afternoon game session.
"You know he does not like information like this; just let him be. I think he is one of those that operate with evidence." I said, trying to get Wesley not to say it again.
"You know that about me; no information passes me by. I have eyes and ears everywhere. I am only telling you this because you are my friend." Wesley said with a tone while holding his ear.
Samuel still said nothing; even though Wesley was loud enough, he kept playing his game like what was being said had nothing to do with him.
"Let him be, bro, please; he might end up reacting in a way that will lead to you guys fighting." Emmanuel jumped in as he pushed Wesley into the other room.
"Call her and ask her where she was yesterday." Wesley shouted while he was being pushed into the other room.
"If Wesley is this serious, it means whatever he is saying has some atom of truth. Emmanuel, let Wesley be." I said.
"You think I am cooking up this story?" Wesley asked, "I cannot just stay and be cooking up stories like this knowing fully well how bad it will hurt my friend," Wesley added.
"You know since Samuel's relationship became official you have never been a supporter of their relationship." Emmanuel said with a smile.
Wesley kept insisting Samuel's girlfriend was cheating and he should stop trusting her the way he does, or else he will end up regretting ever doing so. We all tried to get him to at least stop talking about the matter, but Wesley was bent on getting Samuel to at least do something in order to clear the air and get us to confirm that his girlfriend is not cheating.
"If you think I am lying, let him call her and ask her where she was yesterday." Wesley said with so much seriousness, "Take a look at this photo; this is Rose and the guy called Lucky leaving an eatery yesterday." Wesley added, showing us the screen of his phone.
Samuel still said nothing despite all that was happening, but with how serious Wesley was, he was touched, and the next move he made shocked everybody. He picked up his phone and dialed his girlfriend's number and put it on speakerphone.
"Hello, babe, good afternoon," Samuel said over the phone as the whole room went completely quiet so we could listen to their conversation.
"Good afternoon, my love." Rose responded.
"I just want to ask you one question: Will you be sincere with me?" Samuel asked.
"Yes, of course, anything for you." Rose responded, sounding all lovey-dovey.
"Yesterday when you said your phone was low and you were going to look for a way to go charge it, was that a lie so you could go see somebody else?" Samuel asked with a shaky voice.
"How can you say that? After I got where to charge my phone, I was home all day; I did not go outside my compound yesterday." Rose responded with a tone pretending to be angry and trying to manipulate him with her mood and voice.
"Rose, I saw you yesterday at the eatery, walking side by side with him." Samuel said as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"It was nothing; he is just a friend," Rose said softly.
"You lied," Samuel said. "That is not nothing; if it was nothing, you would have said the truth from the beginning." Samuel added as he cried uncontrollably.
"I am sorry; I did not mean to hurt you." Rose said on the phone.
"My friend, get out of this place." Wesley responded to her as he hung up.
