Walt always felt empty, like if he was part of something big. Sometimes he wondered what his purpose on earth was. He felt like he didn't really belong on earth, from a little age he had been obsessed with the idea of space travel, he loved the moon in particular. He had the picture of Neil Armstrong at his bedside and always talked about how he was oneday going to make it to the moon. He lost his parents at a very young age, the only family he had was his grandmother and his dog Duke. It was really a long shot for a boy from the south side of Chicago to make it to the moon, he had constantly submitted applications to NASA to be accepted as a trainee but it was always rejected. He had grown tired of trying because this was finally trial because he was graduating highschool this year and being fixated on a pit dream wasn't going to pay the bills. His grandmother encouraged him to go for the last highschool party he ever got the chance to go to. Walt hesitated at first but later went for sake of curiosity.
He had never been to a highschool party before, he was surrounded by people dancing and grinding against each other, he tried to mingle but everyone seemed to ignore him. He went outside and tried to flirt with a half drunk girl that just finished throwing up, it seemed to be going well till he drifted and continually talked about the moon till she got tired and walked away. Somebody touched him and he looked up to see a girl smiling at him.
"Is that what happens when you try to flirt?"Isabella asked. Walt laughed and replied,"I kind of have that effect on girls".* "Hmm, your Casanova I see"Isabelle. They burst into laughter as they introduced themselves to each other. They talked for hours and their discussion had made them end up on the roof of the building, Isabelle seemed different than any other girl that Walt had met. She was funny, passionate and didn't seem to run away anytime he mentioned the moon, she seemed to also know enough about space travel too. Walt felt like he had just met the girl of the dreams, the night had come to an end and it was almost morning. He stared into Isabelle's eyes and they kissed. They were interrupted by Isabelle phone that rang, she stopped the kiss and said,"Walt I didn't tell you, I am going to the moon, I was accepted as a NASA trainee"*. Walt couldn't believe that he had just met somebody that was going to be on the moon. She got up and drew him closer as she whispered into his ear, "I am going to miss you Casanova", then kissed him on the cheek and left the roof.
Months had passed since Walt met Isabelle, they texted each other everyday. It had literally been part of his daily routine to text Isabelle, his grandmother didn't think it was healthy for him to be in love that was over 300,000 miles away. After 3 months of constant texting, Isabelle slowly stopped replying to Walt text till she completely stopped texting entirely.
"I don't understand, maybe she doesn't like anymore", Walt thought. The only thing that kept him from true love was just gravity, and he would do anything to overcome it. He immediately got to work, people thought he was crazy because he appeared in the news due to the giant rocket that had started to come together in his backyard. Reporters would come to the house day after day asking whether he would really risk his life on his scrap that he called a rocket. Walt had repaired his late grandfather's old deep diving suit and used it as an astro suit for when he reached space. His grandmother had tried her best to convince against going but she knew her grandson, once he set his mind on something he would set out to do it. She sat on her front porch as she saw the rocket launched from the backyard, the fleet of reporters flashed their cameras as the rocket left everyone's view, they all had one thing so it could really fly. A boy from the southside of Chicago had managed to do the impossible all in the name of love.
Walt gripped his seat as he could feel his heart beating in his chest. The vessel left the earth's atmosphere, he noticed when the photo of his grandmother floated and touched his face, he opened his eyes to see the great celestial body in front of him.
The alarms on the NASA moon space station blurred as they brought in the unidentified craft into the space station. Everyone surrounded it, they opened it to find Walt, Isabelle couldn't believe her eyes. She was full of joy and happiness and ran to him and gave him a kiss. Walt would later go on to win a Nobel prize for his achievement and be given a scholarship and a job at NASA.
The End.
