Growing up in Nigeria, it has always been the dream of every child to go to University to further his or her education, so they do everything they can to make sure it happens. But for that to happen, you would have to go through primary school, and secondary school and you have to write important, examinations, like the junior waec, the senior waec, jamb and even post jamb just to be qualified for entrance into the university.
It looks easy, right? But it is not at all easy because even after passing all these, some factors can stop you from entering the university. Some examples are wrong waec subject combination, cut off mark, etc.

I was one of those who dreamt of going to the university to further my education, and i worked hard to make it a possibility. I shouted very loudly when I saw that I had been given admission to my dream university on my first trial. I couldn’t contain the joy I was feeling because I called my mom and siblings immediately to tell them. They were so happy for me, little did I know that university life wasn’t all as glamorous as it was made to be seen.
Soon it was time for me to go to school,
I was sad because I haven’t been far away from my family before so it was something huge for me. My parents accompanied me to the park to board my bus and bid me farewell as the bus left the park. I was sad but I had to be strong for the journey ahead.
I arrived IMO state in the night and my senior sister was already waiting for me at the park.
She was so happy to see me seeing as we haven’t seen each other in months and me likewise. We boarded a taxi which took us straight to her lodge which was off campus. She had already cooked which I was grateful for because I was so hungry and as soon as I was done eating I went to bed.
The week went by so fast and soon it was my first official day as an undergraduate. Was I excited? Yes was I scared? Yes, but I guess that's how things are.
“Sister” I called my sister.
“Yes baby are you ready for school,” she asked from the bed.
“Yes, I am” I replied.
She offered to accompany me to my lecture hall but seeing as I used the previous week to go around the school, I declined the offer.
“Alright be safe and come back immediately you are done with lectures,” she said to me.
“Yes, I will” I replied.
I had math 101 as my first course and I was pretty happy because maths was one of my strong subjects in secondary school I thought it would be something easy but boy I was wrong. The class was very long and confusing even though it was a one-hour class. I didn’t know maths was this complex so I was so happy when the class was over.
“What's your name,” the girl beside me asked.
“Emeka” I replied.
Keira Burton
“I’m chidiogo,” she said to me.
“Nice to meet you chidiogo” I replied.
“So how did you see the class was it what you expected,” she said.
“No, it was a bit more complex than I expected” I replied.
“I know right, me too I was not expecting what was taught it was like something different” chidiogo said.
We continued talking, seeing as the lecturer for the next course was not available to come to lecture us and we discovered we had a lot in common, from our best color to our Favorite food, it was nice finding someone to talk to on my first day in school and a girl for that matter.
We pretty much spent the whole day together seeing as we enjoyed each other’s company and at the end of class I walked her to her lodge and we exchanged phone numbers.
The rate of cultism in school wasn’t as it used to be, it almost didn’t exist anymore because most of the cultists were now internet fraudsters. So walking around the school was safe unlike when my senior sister newly got admission into the university. it was hell for her.
“How was school,” my sister asked as I got home.
“It was fine but stressful, I even made a new friend,” I said to my sister.
“A new friend hmm male or female,” she asked.
“Female” I replied.
“You this boy you will never change,” she said with a little laugh.
“Leave me joor” I replied.
“I’m hungry o is there food,” I asked my sister.

“Yes check the kitchen” she replied.
I rushed to the kitchen and sure enough, there was rice in the pot and I ate to my satisfaction. After I was done eating, I sat down and reminisced on how my first day at the university went and how it wasn’t that bad and so my journey as a university student begins.
