The dry and dusty road waits for them to decide to leave, while the sun goes down in the distance. Marta hurries her daughters Elenis and Moira to get into the old green car driven by an old man, who is waiting for them.
"Hurry up! They must leave soon. They must have already warned the people".
"But mother! Please come with us!".
Tears stream down the face of a young girl with jet-black hair, her younger sister clinging to her waist as the wind lifts her scarf and reveals her pale face and a few strands of reddish hair.
The carriage starts, and the mother stands watching them drive away. Her tall, thin body, covered by a blanket that she clutches in her arms, is the image of desolation. That was the last sight the girls had before they went far away.
Ten years have passed since that afternoon.
At the national theater, everything is hustle and bustle. Today is the premiere of the play The Firebird, with music by Stravinsky, adapted by the Barcelona Dance Company, under the direction of choreographer Julio Montes. The dancers are in the dressing rooms, nervous about the responsibility they have, and among them is Moira. She looks beautiful in her costume with gold and fire colored feathers. She represents the figure of a mysterious half-woman bird, she is the main dancer. She remembers little of her childhood and her mother, and is focused on what has always been her passion... dance.
In the audience is Elenis, in the front row. She has been her sister's tutor, her manager, her friend. Furthermore, she has given everything so that she could fulfill her dream of dancing, and they have succeeded and tonight is their consecration. Nothing can threaten them. In Spain, they feel safe and the years of sacrifice, hardship and loneliness are behind them.
The lights go out, and the curtain rises to begin one of the most beautiful ballets. With the energetic and magical music, the dancers begin to tell a story, the story of Prince Ivan and the Firebird.
Sitting in the armchairs, a young, dark-haired man, accompanied by two other men, observes the whole scene with curiosity and then with admiration. He never imagined he could see his sister dancing with such delicacy and strength. He is amazed, but he knows he has a mission to accomplish. Furthermore, he has to return with them to the kingdom.
At the end of the show, the dancers are acclaimed by the audience and Moira, has become the favorite of the critics. She has been spectacular. Elenis goes up to congratulate her, she is so happy for her sister and herself. She has fulfilled the promise she made to her mother.
As they leave the theater, and as they are about to get into the car, some men intercept them, Elenis sees her brother Adrián with fear. She has not forgotten his face, but now heoks so cold, a mask that shows no feelings.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to look for them. Moira has a duty to her country, a bonding commitment to Ismael, the son of our most important ally. "
"I have no duty to anyone, I am free and in this country my father has no authority. If you take us by force, you will commit a crime".
"Our father died".
"And my mother? How is she?" Elenis asks.
"She is fine".
"And does she know you came looking for us?"
"She doesn't have to know...
"Yes, I know what you were going to say, because she is a woman. And you haven't even thought that she is your mother and that she has suffered a lot? She deserves to live in peace and not in the anguish she has lived with all these years, separated from her daughters, without knowing about them".
"I did not make the laws of my country"
But if you can change them, brother, now you have the opportunity to be a just man and help your people. Elenis knew that under that hard mask was the brother who had supported her to let her study and who was with them taking care of them when they attacked their father's palace.
It can happen a moment in the life of every human being, where one has the opportunity to decide which path to choose, where the conscience that was asleep wakes up. Was it the magic of the wings of the firebird that made Adrian reflect? It only took a few seconds for him to make a very important decision for him and his family.
"I admire them and also my mother, for having made the decision to take them out of the country and not allow them to have their wings clipped.. I am going back to my country. When I arrive I am going to talk to my mother, I want to tell her what happened today".
Barely two months have passed and Elenis and Moira are waiting impatiently at the city's airport. A tall, thin figure with a suit that covers her whole body and a scarf on her head that gathers her long silver hair walks towards them. The three of them join in an embrace.
