Vishal was staring at the glass window for a long now. Suddenly, a loud noise came from the next table from where Vishal was sitting. But he couldn't care less. His mind was occupied with all sorts of negative thoughts. But a calming voice settled him down.
Trust me, I will come.
He can hear these words just as distinctly as he heard them from Sanjana's mouth yesterday. But it was all in his mind.
He went back into a state of deep thought. What if she never comes? What if she came but went back after seeing me? What if she changed her mind? All these thoughts had him under their control. He could not even move.
Will you wait for me long if I don't show up on time?
Again his mind played a different memory with her. What does she mean by that? She was joking...right? He was asking questions to himself now.
Another noise brought him right back to the restaurant. Now a couple was angry with the waiter but he had his battles to win. Everything else around him seemed pointless to him.
His eyes got locked on a young lady from across the Road. Could this be her finally? She said she would wear a white top.
But no, she went past the glass window and kept walking. Vishal's hopes were shattering now. He picked up his phone to check for any new messages from her. A ray of hope shone on him after seeing the "1 new incoming message" notification.
"Your salary is credited to your bank account". On any other day this would have lifted his mood instantly but this time he was more disappointed and sad on seeing this than before he read it.
His fingers ran quickly at the number pad on his phone but the call never connected. She doesn't want to come? Else why would her phone be off?
Now there was a huge ruckus at the next table. Abuses were being hurled but Vishal was fighting with himself and couldn't get involved in another one. Soon his mind filtered out the external noise and he was left alone with thoughts again.
You thought you had a special connection? Everyone knows Hive connections remain on Hive only.
Now there was a big crowd gathered around the next table, someone called the Security as well. Even all that commotion failed to distract Vishal. Everything he hoped for seemed to be drifting out of his reach now. Why this has to happen to me again?
Trust me Vishal, I will come.
Echoed again in his mind.
"Sir, hello?", said a person who had a nice suit on, "Sorry Sir, we have to close early today, you have seen the disruption created by that couple. It is bad for our reputation so, we are closing early today, here is a gift card for your trouble." He waved his hands towards the door and now the reality hits Vishal hard.
He looked up to the ceiling to complain to the higher powers, "Now you had to send someone to move me out? Why would you do that to me? Why?"
He was a crushed soul at this point, with a noticeable frown on his face he came out of the restaurant as they were making final adjustments before closing it. He waited for almost an hour now.
Hi, Vishal. Told you I would come.
Vishal was not going to get tricked by his mind anymore. He didn't even try to look back. But then a hand landed on his shoulder. He could feel the touch now. "Am I going insane?" he mumbled.
It's me Sanjana. You have been waiting here all alone? I am so sorry, my phone ran out of battery and this uber driver took me to the wrong place. How are you?
Vishal couldn't believe his eyes or his ears. She was there.
"You came!?", he asked.
"Of course, I came... I promised you I would come."
There I have it after what...like 8 months(?) after joining the community. I know I have a lot to improve on but hey... at least I put words on screen...hehe
Not sure if the story setting was okay. But the prompt inspired me to write this week.
Thanks for reading...
Until next time...
