An unforgettable day it was when we decided to host a small celebration party for our friend who was about to get wedded, as this was the only way we could show how amazing she has been and how we would miss her because things wouldn't be as before. It was a day filled with happiness, but we couldn't stop feeling sad as the thought that one of us was leaving the circle to be united with her forever would-be husband kept us in a worried state. Yes, we were happy for her while anticipating the day and finally saying goodbye, except we talk via WhatsApp and other social media.
It was in the year 2020 when our friend announced that she would be getting married, and as friends of the bride, we were expected to do our best and make sure our efforts were worth it, seeing one of us leaving us behind. One of the beautiful things we have always done together as singles were to come together with our boyfriends and host a small party where we talk and share our challenges, achievement, and plans amongst ourselves. For each year, we choose which house would host everyone and it kept rotating that way and it was so much fun. Every other girl in the neighbourhood admired us and wanted to tag along but we strictly told them we do not need any other people except the trio of friends who have been together for a long time.
“I am getting married, Buzhay, Peace, she screamed with Joy that evening we were together and gisting.”
“Our parents picked the date for us and it's coming up in the next four months,” She added!
I stared into her eyes with excitement all over my face while I turned to look at Peace with the caption, "Did you hear that?" She nodded in excitement too for a while but had this disbelief and worrisome look that our friend would be leaving the circle.
“Will the get-together still be interesting without you when you are married?” That was the question that came forth from Peace who suddenly changed the look on her face, she felt sober. Immediately the relaxed atmosphere turned cold and I could feel the low vibe on Peace's face. I knew she would miss our friend so much because Ajoke who was getting married is a jovial and spirit-filled lady who could turn a bad moment into a good one just by being around at that time. She has a kind of magic that keeps an atmosphere flowing with rays of light radiating in people's hearts. She is never a dulling girl till today.
After a little silence in the room, we brushed ourselves up and returned back to a state of ecstasy. We remembered we wouldn't be changing her mind about getting married but to plan ahead of the day and make it great and fun-filled.
“Okay, how do we plan this? Don't you think we should do a little party together and enjoy the moment before she is finally knotted together with her hubby?” I said as I stood up to make everywhere flow lively again. Though, I am never good at planning such parties or understanding how to go about it but trust Peace as a great event planner who is ready to take responsibility for it to the fullest. She was and is still good at the Job because it's her passion to bring an event to the maximum best.
After much thinking and deliberating on a perfect location, we finally picked a garden park that was outside of town, to be at a faraway place from home. Also to feel the fresh air, devoid of any artificial or man-made construction, we just wanted a peaceful and quiet place.
The plan went on as we estimated how much it would cost us. Of course, we left our bride-to-be out of this, including money as we took the responsibility for that. It wasn't much as we decided to make small chops, fruit juice, and fitted dresses to put on.
The date was picked and it came as we all emerged together to the specified location. We dined and wined together as we kept gisting and sharing memories together. Afterwards, we prayed and wished our friend the best in her new home. As Peace and Ajoke were conversing together, I was already lost in the conversation as my mind went far from the moment. I had an ache in my chest from the fact that our friend was leaving us. I went into past memories of how we started, the nostalgia felt, and I had a tap on my thigh which brought me back to the moment. “I was lost, sorry. What have you both been saying?”
They both laughed at me while explaining where I couldn't pick up from and after a while of celebrating with our friend, we set for our journey back home. It was an amazing get-together as we spent hours, we called it a celebration party to send her off in becoming Mrs soon.
