I hissed when Chiwa casually walked over my comfy cot. That ugly mutt never ceases to irritate me every day, and this morning was no different.
Waking up in a good mood, I thought that this day would be different, but seeing him step on my precious cot changed it immediately.
"Damn mutt! Don't step on my cot, you ugly!", I spat while approaching him angrily.
"Chill Kitty, you're too tense! It's not my fault that your cot looks like a rag!", it barked jokingly.
I chatter in frustration as I watch him walk away from my precious cot. It's been like this since the day he arrived on that one stormy night.
Thunder boomed, and she immediately hid behind the curtains. The window panes rattled as the wind blew hard. The moonless sky stretched endlessly as the storm thrashed around.
Kitty purred in loneliness as she pressed her face towards the damp window. She had been there for hours, waiting and anticipating the arrival of her owner.
'She usually doesn't get this late...', she pondered thoughtfully.
She purred again when a gust of wind blew towards her. Even though the windows were shut closed, a bit of chilly air went in and caused her to shiver a little.
'Mina, where are you—'
The door suddenly opened, and without any hesitation, Kitty jumped down the window. She eagerly ran towards her, heedless of her owner's apparent drenched state. But before she could jump to Mina, she stopped in track when she noticed something.
'She is bringing something suspicious," she thought while slowly walking towards Mina.
"Good evening, my dear Kitty, how are you? Did you enjoy your me-time here?", she asked as she held her up while caressing Kitty's head. Despite her being drenched, Kitty snuggled close to her.
"I missed you, Mina...", she purred affectionately.
"You're cold? Fine, fine, I'll put you down...", she answered, completely ignorant of what Kitty really said.
"No—I'm not saying that! Nooooo!", she meowed while snuggling closer to her drenched owner. However, she put her down hastily, making her a little disappointed. She was about to hiss at Mina when she saw her smiling.
"You wait here—I'll just change my clothes, dear."
Her agitation immediately disappeared the moment she saw her smile.
'I could never hate her... I could never hate the girl who treated me well.'
Or so she thought.
Her ear perked up when she heard a soft whimpering coming from Mina's room. She knew where that kind of noise usually came from, but she hoped she was just mistaken.
But it turns out she's not because Mina went out of her room carrying a strange-looking dog.
'It's clearly a mutt—and an ugly-looking one!', she hissed in protest.
"Ohhh, there you are, my dear! By the way, meet your new sibling! It's Chiwa!", Mina said cheerfully.
She hissed and yowled when Mina attempted to get her close with Chiwa. Mina frowned at her unusually harsh reaction. The mutt seemed to feel her hostility, so he snuggled closer to Mina. Kitty got alarmed with it and yowled louder.
"Bad Kitty! Is that how you treat your new sibling? We're family, right? Don't treat him that way," Mina said soothingly while caressing Kitty's chin.
"Understood?"
I never understood why it has to be Chiwa.
That mutt was nasty after all. I never saw the reason why I needed to treat him like family.
It's been a couple of months since he came, but I never remember any good thing that happened to me during those months.
And it's all because of him.
I laid down comfortably beneath the dining table, but suddenly, my ear perked up. I heard something!
They're quick, tiny footsteps, and I definitely know to whom those footsteps belong.
They're from the despicable rats!
I slowly stood up and made my way towards the cabinet. They froze when they saw me, and I deliberately ignored them. I know they're stupid enough to take that bait, and indeed they did because moments after that they started to scamper.
I extended my right paw and pounced on one of them. It struggled beneath my paw, but I wasn't bothered with it. I will continue pinning it down until it will stop struggling.
It struggled and twitched before it stopped and laid still limply. I know that it's dazed by now, and since I'm a playful predator—I enjoyed watching it escape knowing that it couldn't. However, that's my biggest mistake because the moment I lessened the weight of my paw, it suddenly broke free and scampered quickly.
"It's a ruse!", I hissed as I chased after it.
It climbed up the table, and I immediately followed it, not caring of the things above it. I jumped and hissed when I slipped and pushed the glasses off the table. Shattering sounds echoed throughout the kitchen room, but I was too preoccupied to notice it. I continued chasing that rat. Several crashing sounds followed, and suddenly the bell rang. I snapped out and got distracted, and that's when the vermin hid quickly.
"Damn...", I hissed when I saw the kitchen stuff all higgledy-piggledy.
"Yo Kitty! What's up! Still—"
Chiwa didn't finish what he's about to say when he saw the state of the kitchen.
"Hey, what happened?", he barked concernedly. He looked around and whimpered when he saw the mess I'd done.
"This is bad, Kitty...Mina will really hate you—"
"It's not my fault! I was just chasing that vermin—and then this happened!", I meowed angrily.
"But still, you should have eaten it directly. I know you usually play with your prey before you eat it, so it wasn't that surprising that it ended this way... but I didn't expect that this kitchen would get all higgledy-piggledy just because of your silly game," he barked seriously.
I hate to agree with him, but he's right.
'It's my fault...', I thought sadly while purring. The bell rang, and now I'm sure it's Mina coming.
"Go!", Chiwa barked as he shoved me with his left paw.
"What?"
"Just go... I'll handle this."
"Are you crazy? I did this mess! I'm not selfish enough to make you take the blame. Mina will get angry and will—"
"She'll throw me out, will she...? I know she will, but I'm already fine with that because it will be more pitiful if it's you who'll get thrown out. I lived in the streets since I was born, so I guess I'll survive if I get thrown out now. It's a waste though because the food and floor here are warmer and much better than the ones I have in the streets."
I stopped when I understood what he had barked.
'Mina didn't buy him? I thought he's one of those pampered dogs who were bred to be sold off at ridiculous prices...'
'I was wrong..."
"Hey, run now! She's coming," he barked as he nudged me away.
I just stood there until the footsteps became closer.
"Hey, Kitty, are you in shock?! Go now, no need to pity me; I'll sur—
"What happened here?!", Mina exclaimed as she saw the mess I've created. "Oh my! My new glasses!"
She looked around and exclaimed further. She collected carefully the glass shards and piled them in the corner. Then she took a deep breath and let it out sharply. I thought she would lash out at us, but I was surprised when I saw her face. She's grinning.
"My! My! You two did really have your fun time here, did you?", she said while scratching her chin. "Come here, my little gremlins... as if I can hate you two... we're family, remember? I'm glad that you two are getting along, but next time don't break and mess up things, will you? Or else I'll go broke and we won't be eating anything again," she said while laughing heartily.
I purred and looked at Chiwa, who's equally shocked as I was moments ago.
'I guess I forgot what she was really like...'
I purred and snuggled closer to her, then I turned to Chiwa.
"This is what Mina is... Do you still want to go back to the streets?", I meowed as I looked at the dumbstruck mutt.
He seems to have realized something. He looked at me and barked cheerfully, "Of 'course not! This is more like a perfect reason to stay."
"Yes... of 'course—it is."
