Any person who requested or asked for any help was never sent back without fulfilling their demand. One of his courtiers, Kramer, thought, "Our king is very kind, so why not take advantage of him?" He worked hard to become a close, trusted, and unique courtier of that kingdom. He wanted to win the trust of the king so he could become a minister of the treasury. He had his eyes on the money in the treasury.
So, Kramer chalked out a plan. He tried his best to stay around the king and did whatever the king asked him to do. He was always with the king and went everywhere with him. The king once asked him to keep the money in the basement of the treasury house that came as a tax from merchants and farmers, and he did it honestly. He knew the king was taking his test.
The king thought, "Kramer helps me everywhere, and, whatever work I ask him to do, he does it totally honestly." The king was absolutely impressed with Kramer's work. Kramer knew he was succeeding in his plan by impressing the king with his honesty and hard work.
As expected, one day the king summoned Kramer. Kramer thought the day had finally arrived when he was about to achieve his plan. He was happy in his heart that now the king was about to speak about making him the keeper of his treasure.
The king said to him, "Kramer, I feel you are very honest in your work." He further said, "Therefore, I want to give you a responsibility."
Kramer acted as if he didn’t understand what the king was talking about when he said, "Yes, your honor, I will fulfill all the duties that you feel I can fulfill easily."
"I am very impressed with you and I have deputized you to guard my treasure." The king said.
Kramer was full of joy to hear this. He thanked the king and accepted the additional responsibility with folded hands. In the beginning, he did his work honestly so that the king would have more trust in him. Then, after a little while, he started cheating and embezzling state money in small amounts. Later, he committed bigger scams, causing a lot of damage to the treasury, but the king had full faith in him. The king thought there was probably a fall in the revenue.
But he asked his revenue minister to look into the matter for the losses to the treasury. The revenue minister soon found out the reason and who was behind it. He brought it to the notice of the king.
The king called Kramer to the court and told him, "You turned out to be very dishonest." The king was furious and said, "Not only have you broken my trust, but you have lost all the good impression that you had on me." He further said, "You will definitely be punished."
The king, instead of sending him to jail, ordered Kramer to leave the state, keeping Kramer's past services in his mind.
After hearing this, Kramer thought, "I will get no work anywhere and all this has happened because of the king." He was thinking of destroying the king and the kingdom. He planned to get away with the money in the treasury. So one night, he secretly sneaked inside the palace, and somehow reached the royal kitchen.
Next morning when the food was ready, he mixed sleeping pills into the food so the king and his staff would sleep after eating the food and he would disappear with as much money as possible. He then hid in a corner of the kitchen.
When the food was ready, the king announced to invite and feed the food to the poor and orphaned children. Kramer was shocked to hear this. Actually, he forgot that the king used to feed the poor every Tuesday. And that was a Tuesday.
So he thought, "No, I will not let it happen." I can’t harm the poor people and innocent children of this kingdom for my greed. But if the innocent children and poor people eat this food, they will suffer from diseases.
But Kramer didn’t want to let it happen, so he went to the king and said, "My lord, please do not distribute this food to the poor." He begged with folded hands.
Tears started falling from his eyes- Please forgive me, I took this wrong step because of greed.
The king was really kind and wise. He knew that this man would do nothing wrong in the future. He forgave him once again. Kramer regretted from the core of his heart what he did in the past and transformed entirely from that day onward. The king made him in charge of the treasury once again because he knew Kramer would take no wrong steps and will always behave properly.
Kramer never ever disappointed the king in the future but he always worked honestly and served in the best interest of the state.
