Mom is truly an inspiration for devotion and commitment.
Manabasa Gurubara(Thursday) is a special ritual that is celebrated (starting today) at my place, in which married women worship the Goddess Lakshmi, seeking blessings for wealth, happiness, and prosperity of the family and I was surprised to see Mom back into action, after getting up from fever just a day back. As soon as I heard she not doing well, I ran into my native with all the plants ( as I had plans to plant them), brought her medicines and the moment she felt a little better, all her preparations started - meticulously cleaning the entire house, decorating the house with some intricate white designs known as jhotis, created using rice paste.
I am surprised to see how she gathers so much strength to decorate the entire house putting these designs at every door, even though she can't stand for long time.
For her, devotion, commitment and attachment to God is what it means to be human, in the midst of life’s unpredictable rhythm. Even though I requested her to not take this heavy load after recovering from fever, she listens to her inner voice reflecting personal beliefs that helps us to overcome these highs and lows of life and focus on duty and commitment.
In this severing cold, taking a full head bathe, doing all the rituals, reciting the Laxmi Purana and then preparing a delicious vegan ( no onions and garlic even) for us makes her feel fulfilled to invite the goddess Lakshmi, to bless us with prosperity - a true testament of women empowerment in our culture, where a woman shapes up the family, by her commitment towards duty for everyone. Same goes in my house as well, men barely contribute to these rituals, though I am a little different being a Mom's kid, putting all kind of helping hand.
While enjoying the delicious meal that she prepared, I was praying God to give me all the mental strength like her to live the life till we are alive - there will be Highs and lows but it's our basics that will always remain intact irrespective of all the situations and we must not forget that and try to make this life more livable (for us as well as others) than anticipating or worrying too much.
The lord helps those who help themselves, do you agree ? Divine assistance is only available after our own efforts to act and improve the situation, with faith and self-righteousness.
