I can't help but praise God when I think back to my undergraduate years for how far I've come and where He's leading me. My time at the university was incredibly difficult, and I was on the verge of quitting.
I remember the day when I was an undergraduate living in an apartment with three other females, and the owner of the apartment informed us that she needed privacy and couldn't continue living with us. At that time, I didn't have any money. My friend wants to evict us from the apartment again, as I'm on the verge of quitting school.
I gathered my belongings, feeling disoriented and unsure of where to go. I went to the school chapel and kneeled down, pleading with God to help me get through the difficulties I'm facing.
I was still at the chapel crying when one of my friends, Tayo, called me, "Hello Toyin, there is a scholarship entry here; I think you can try it". I thanked her, but I knew in my mind that I wasn't capable of winning the scholarship. But my friend wouldn't give up on me; she called me the next day, informing me that I shouldn't give up. I told her that I had nowhere to go and i couldn't think straight, but she told me to come over to her house.
Tayo would wake me up every night to read and prepare for the exam; sometimes you would be the one to make me coffee. The day of the exam came, and I took it. Although it was very difficult, my friend told me not to give up, and we kept praying that it would work out.
During the holidays, I stayed with my aunt to earn money for my school fees. Then one day my friend called, saying,
"Toyin, have you checked your email because names are out for winners of the scholarship exam you wrote", I was like, I didn't put my mind to it; I may not actually win the scholarship, but my friend persuaded me to still check it.
I summon courage to check,and to my greatest surprise, I emerge as the overall winner of the competition, allowing me to pay my school fee and house rent. My friend's unwavering faith in me truly made her an angel in my life.
I am eternally grateful to God for sending an angel to be my friend. There is no greater joy having friends who never give up on us and help us become the best version of ourselves.
