Drizella and Alexa had been best friends right from kindergarten; they grew up together and were of the same age. Most people who didn't know much about them thought they were twins and even when asked about it, the best friends affirmed that they were sisters but would later laugh about it.
Their bond was strong and seemed unbreakable, even though they had faced many challenges that should have broken their friendship, the girls were unwavering and grew their love for each other even more.
They had just graduated from highschool and had planned to apply for the same college because they didn't ever want to get away from each other. It was a blissful moment for the girls when they were given the report from their principal that they had been shortlisted amongst many others who were going to Brooklyn college. The girls had single handedly paid for their college forms with the money they had saved up just to surprise their parents that they were responsible kids. They couldn't wait to get home to deliver the news to them and watch them smile and feel so proud.
After getting their admission letters from their principal, Drizella accompanied Alexa to her house to deliver the news and then Alexa was gonna reciprocate it. On getting to Alexa's house, her parents were already in the living room watching TV when the girls walked in with smiles on their faces.
"Hey Mom and Dad, we are going to college!!!!" The two girls jumped and danced around in circles after handing over the letter to the adults who quickly opened it. "Wow, this is good news but how did you two get the money for the registration"? They both asked with a surprise look and in a jinx.
The girls stopped dancing, looked at themselves, giggled and said "we saved up to get the forms just so y'all can be proud of us". "This calls for a celebration" Alexa's mother said happily getting up to get glasses and a wine for the celebration but was stopped by Drizella. "Ummm, we need to go show my parents the letters too and then tomorrow we'll celebrate in a grand way we've already invited our friends" the girls blushed and covered their faces as Alexa's parents looked at each other in astonishment.
"You two can go then", Alexa's dad said and the girls dashed out immediately. "I can't wait to see the shock on their faces yuuno, they'll scream their eyes out haha" Drizella was super excited she was going to be in the same college as her best friend.
Her house wasn't so far away from that of Alexa so in no time they arrived. On getting inside, the house was scattered, there were big boxes everywhere. The two girls stood still as if they were glued looking at the whole place. Just immediately, Drizella's parents came downstairs with boxes in their hands. "oh! welcome honey" her dad greeted with a smile.
"Uhm dad! What's going on"? ''Sorry we hid this from you for a long time baby we're actually moving out, we wanted you to be done with high school before telling you since we know how much you hate moving, you'll be doing college at the new place we're moving to which is Mexico''. Her mom responded in the sweetest way she could.
The two girls' eyes had moistened already as they both found a place to sit down, while trying to take in what they just heard. "I came here to let you know that I've been shortlisted to attend Brooklyn college and here you both are packing up things and telling me we're moving, it's not fair at all, okay how do you expect me to leave without Alexa, how"? Tears rolling down her cheeks already, her face had turned pink.
Alexa shifted closer to her, "I'll miss you Drizella, it seems your parents have made up their minds but..." she paused for a while "I'll have to leave now because this whole thing is taking a toll on me" tears rushed down her eyes too. She ran out of the house back to her own house. When she got in, she ran straight upstairs and locked herself in her room not minding the people who came knocking at her door.
Back at Drizellas house she also went up to her room and locked herself indoors. She lay on her bed wetting her pillow with tears. Her parents tried talking to her but she refused to listen. She stopped talking to them and did things on her own which was eating into her parents badly but their minds had been made.
One morning while she was in her room, she heard someone call her from her window side. She quickly got out of bed to the window, lifted the shutters only to see Alexa looking so happy screaming her name. "Come down Drizella" Alexa's voice carried so much energy and enthusiasm so she quickly unlocked her door and rushed outside to meet her best friend.
"My parents said I could take the same college form in Mexico with you and about the money I used in getting the Brooklyn form, they gave it back to me so…. we'll still be attending the same college after all." "Really? Drizella asked, her eyes moistened, she hugged her friend. They held onto each other for a long time before letting go of each other's grip.
"Let me help you pack up. I'll miss you for the few months you'll be away" Alexa said letting a bead of tears out. "Lexa! Don't cry, we'll always talk on the phone. I'm just glad we'll still be together, your parents are life savers", she said with a smile and they hugged each other the second time before walking into the house to help in the packing.
