Hi contributors, subscribers and supporters.
This is with a special edition of the newsletter announcing a few important updates that will effect The Ink Well community moving forward throughout 2020.
New Admin of The Ink Well -
I have decided to take a break from Hive for six months at the least.
This is not a decision that I have taken lightly.
The past three months I've struggled with keeping the content flowing from the community account as chronic health issues, along with fighting off Corona Virus, knocked me completely out of commission. This chronic health condition, SIBO, remains a constant issue in my life and after recovering from CV it has got worse.
It is for these reasons, as well as financial concerns, that I need to step away from Hive. This month was the first time I have struggled to fulfill important IRL writing deadlines that make up a large part of my monthly living expenses. If I had lost these commissions I wouldn't have been able to pay my rent.
The truth is that it is extremely time consuming running a community like The Ink Well, and I had to make the difficult decision to prioritize my work outside of Hive along with my health.
But there is no need to despair.
The Ink Well isn't going anywhere 😉
I have spent the last ten days networking and found the perfect replacement for me in the active admin role at the head of a small team of four. This transition will ensure that the community will move from strength to strength.
From tomorrow onward, will take on the role of
admin, working alongside
.
Shani is a long term contributor on steem/hive, a great creative writer and has been involved in literary projects outside of this blockchain. Throughout our discussions in organizing this transition I've come to realize how lucky I've been to find someone who holds very similar visions and goals as I do for The Ink Well.
My intentions in setting up this community were all about encouraging/rewarding high quality creative writing on Hive, and engaging with the wider writing community to help grow this platform.
Shani and I are perfectly aligned in this ethos, and she has some amazing ideas about a summer filled with creative prompts to inspire fiction and poetry.
will continue to post her excellent Saturday writing tips for the foreseeable future as a mod. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank
personally for all her help engaging people through commenting over the last two months, especially when I was suffering symptoms of CV and couldn't do anything in the community.
will remain as a Mod and valued team member following a quick confirmation and chat with
.
Community Curation at The Ink Well
Just in case anyone is concerned about the community curation model, I can reassure you all that we will remain a supported community.
Myself and are both curie curators, so
will ensure that the community remains supported by curie by networking with the guild throughout this transition.
There will also be a few comprehensive posts coming out soon that more fully explain how we assess creative writing, both poetry and fiction. These have been put together by Shani, and all of the team have approved them, including myself. These posts will clearly show the standards of writing we try to reward, and the assessment criteria.
I hope you have enjoyed the creative prompts and engagement initiatives I have put out during my time as administrator at The Ink Well. I have very much enjoyed reading the fantastic poetry and short stories that they have inspired.
I hope to return to Hive in the future when/if my health improves.
Many thanks for reading.
