Hi everybody, I know it's almost Halloween and the prompt is midnight. I tried writing a scary story but I couldn't seem to get it right so I decided to twist it a bit and make it love themed, I hope you enjoy
"Make a wish"
"You know I don't believe in these things"
"I know, just do it for me"
"Okay, okay, there goes"
I closed my eyes, the air was chill under the midnight moon but I felt warm by her side. She was everything I wanted, my perfect princess. My life was like a fairytale with her.
"What did you wish for?"
"If I tell you, it wouldn't come true now would it"
"I thought you didn't believe in these things"
"But you do so I believe it a little".
She had the prettiest smile, the finest I had ever seen. There was something different about her, maybe it was the way the moon light touched parts of her skin or the way the air poured are scent all over the field.
"We should get going, we'll be late for the party, Rebecca would kill us if we are an hour late"
"Do we have to go? we could always cancel and say the car broke down"
"She wouldn't forgive us, you know how your sister is, plus I'm still trying to get her to like me"
"Everything's perfect, why ruin it"
"We have the rest of our lives for moments like this, Becca turns 24 once"
"Fine, but you're driving"
"I'm sorry for your loss"
"I'm sorry for your loss"
Random people filled our house all dressed in black. I don't even know half of these people and yet they say they know how I feel. The air felt thin, I could hardly breathe. Becca offered to stay a while but I'm better off on my own. I took a stroll to our favorite spot hoping I'd see her sitting on the grass. She promised me we'd spend the rest of our lives in moments like that night.
I spent some time on the grass trying to hold back the tears, she always said I looked ugly when I cried. I never really did tell her what I wished for, I guess those things didn't quite work anyways, wishing under the full moon. I felt a certain emptiness inside. I stood and watched the sunset, time to go back to reality. Your scent was all over the field, for a brief moment, I felt you there.
"Daddy, are you fine? I'm cold"
"Come here sweetie"
I pulled my coat to cover this five year old, she looked funny in the oversized coat.
"You smell just like mama"
"Aunty Becca said I should come find you"
"Let's go inside, are you hungry? how does chicken sound?"
"Yay!!"
Maybe you did keep your promise, or maybe the wish came through, Bloom is her spitting image and I'm going to love her as I do you. I miss my Elizabeth.
