Tamakoshi river is one of the river that flows through Dolakha district of Nepal and originates from Himalayas in the Tibet, China. Recently, there has been blockage of the river system due to massive landslide in the RongXia city, Tingri County that is on the China side. And the District Administration has warned people to be on high alert as there will be massive flood due to the blockage that is going to affect people leaving near the river side.
The blockage after releasing along with the continuous rainfall call cause flood in those areas. The recent flood in Sindhupalchok, which I mentioned in my last post here, is also very near to this same district. When the river system is blocked, then it will create a lake. After release, you know lake and river gets mixed to raise water level.
But there is somehow good news for only flood mitigation. The 456 MegaWatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower project will empty its reservoir to hold water after the lake bursts on its own. It will buy people at least time of one and half hour to warn them and move to safer location. However, if there is same scenarios that I mentioned in previous post, then there will be heavy loss of people's property, their cultivated field, loss of domestic animals and so on.
