…or should I say, ALL is sound? No, that cannot be. For now at least, let us call that a question for another time, assuming it ever becomes significant enough to be worth consideration.
I doubt it will ever be of significance (nor honestly even possible) for us to define the ALL in any explicit terms. The truth is, I’ve said it before but I don’t really know anything…or at least, almost anything. I know I exist. In what capacity, I do not know. Am I a brain plugged into some sort of dream machine? Am I someone else, dreaming they’re me? Am I Brahm or whatever, Shiva disguised as Albus for a good time? Sri Ramana Maharshi I guess talked a lot about asking ourselves this very question. I suppose there must be something to it, but this too, is a question for another time.
The other thing I know?
The environment in which I find myself existing is a web of myriad incalculable lies. Every truth is a half truth at best. My senses themselves may or may not be reliable; if I’m a brain in a box or something, I would have no way of knowing this was the case - I know it’s an extreme, but it’s the ultimate reality of things, as I see it, and I know of no way to prove otherwise beyond dispute.
As it sits, I believe quantum physics is on the right track in its assertion that all of our observable universe is made up of vibrating energy. As far as reason can take us, energy can be assumed to vibrate at any frequency greater than 0Hz, and various ranges have been labeled according to how our senses interact with energy vibrating at varying frequencies. There are frequency ranges associated with really all of our senses and some beyond, measurable so far only through the use of secondary devices.
…so, no answers here, but a thought. What if it’s ALL sound? What if we labeled as sound that which we could hear, but in fact, it is all sound? If the vocal chords could be made to vibrate at a high enough frequency, would they not emit light? I don’t mean to suggest that they are physically capable of doing so, simply positing that light, as a state of being, may really defined only in terms of the vibrational frequency.
In other words, “light,” isn’t “light.” Sound isn’t sound and matter isn’t matter. Matter is sound and sound is light and light is matter - it’s all made out of the same core component…only the frequency changes. I guess in this regard, saying all is sound is no different from calling it anything else - what we call it boils down to unnecessary semantics. If all the knowable universe is made out of the same basic energy, matter being formed by lower frequency, light by higher, etc., I’d say the name we give that energy (or whatever) is of almost completely no importance whatsoever.
This is also just words, but I find an interesting point to be found in the consideration of the Fourier transform - or more specifically, in the observable universe as seen from the perspective of the frequency domain. When we look at frequency measurements, I suppose particularly I do mean to speak of Fourier plots, we see that the standard x axis = time bit is changed. We see frequencies plotted against their amplitudes.
The Fourier transform shows all the data over the recorded time period all at once. Why am I saying this? Our understanding of frequency domain, to me, is evidence of timelessness.
A song can be experienced in time as a series of notes that form a melody, or all at once, as a collection of frequencies with harmonic (or diatonic or pentatonic or whatever) relationships…no two songs have the same frequency signature. All can be seen in the frequency domain, glanced in an instant - but the component of time is required to experience the composition.
I suppose, if it hadn’t come up already, by now you’re wondering what my point is. Truth be told, I don’t really have one. I was just pondering on this and decided to write it down and see where it went.
