The winter solstice is only a few days away. And while these are the shortest days of the year they are also the busiest. We are working full time on our house building project, leaving in the morning and often returning after the sun has set. I am planning a building update soon but first, a witchy blog!
Thinking back to December 31st as I explained what I do for work to a group of friends I was gripped by a fear that the advances with AI would replace me. That my thoughts & homemade pictures won't be relevant for much longer. I vowed then to make a change and my new years resolution was to re-start my line of physical products that I had abandoned a couple of years ago.
So, when I returned home after the holidays I started an online shop here in Argentina. Mostly focusing on candles but also herbs and remedies that I have been making for years. But, instead of selling them at a super low price at the store where I worked for years, my boyfriend suggested that I start selling my crafts online.
Maybe for some items online sales can be as simple as listing your offerers on whatever the mainstream platform is of your country. But, for something so ubiquitous as candles I have found that online marketing is necessary to get the word out. So, I have ventured into the realm of making tiktok videos.
Tiktok can be well ... disheartening, addictive, and shocking all at once. There are some really rude people roaming the comments section, letting me know about each and every mistake I make. Others are supportive! I like to think of the videos I make as spells in themselves, both to promote my work as a visual artists and to make sales of the things I make.
I am really at the very beginning of this journey and have dreams of much more. I am finding a way to combine my two great passions in life ~ making digital art, and making crafts into a business. And it is so nice to see, half a year later, that I have indeed set out to do what I wished for in my New Year's Resolution.
