When Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva the reason for all the sufferings. So Lord Shiva told Parvatiji that greed i.e. temptation is the only reason for all the sufferings. There are three types of temptations in the world.
1. "Lust of the eyes" This means materialism.
Means man has to believe that money and property are the most important things in life. And nowadays man has become so mad behind this that he has forgotten the difference between right and wrong. After that man gets many troubles. He cries, repents but cannot leave the greed of money. Lord Shiva tells that the happiness of materialism does not last long.
When Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva, what is real happiness? And what kind of happiness lasts longer?
Lord Shiva said that living happily depends on how we are in our inner life. How are our thoughts, how are our feelings, what are our beliefs, and what are our desires. The ashes on Lord Shiva's body symbolize that everything in life is temporary.
2. "Lust of the flesh" means hedonism
Here man has full faith that the most important thing in the world is to enjoy. In the process of enjoying this, he leaves the important tasks of life. And this joy gives the most pain to that person.
3 "Pride of life" means arrogance.
It means thinking highly of yourself and thinking that you are better than everyone else. When Mata Parvati asked Shivji that what is it that destroys human intelligence? Then Lord Shiva told that ego can completely destroy the mind and intellect. This arrogance makes you very stubborn. And when you are stubborn then you do not listen to what others say. Ego doesn't take you anywhere, it takes you far away from yourself. Friends, time is the most valuable thing in the world.
Lord Shiva is also known as Mahakaleshwar. And another meaning of Kaal is time, and Lord Shiva is also the god of time. When Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva that what is the most precious thing in the world? Lord Shiva's answer was 'Time' is the most valuable thing in this world. Before giving it to anyone, give it very carefully and very wisely and after thinking carefully. Because once wasted time can never come back.
Lord Mahadev in the form of Rudras is called Shiva. Shiva means the one who does welfare of all. But the literal meaning of Shiva is zero also. It is also true that everything in this world has originated from zero. And the basic qualities of the universe are also zero. There is neither air nor sound in the universe nor light is visible. Till infinity only zero is zero.
